2. Acid Medium
• Balance the number of atoms except

• Identify oxygen deficient side
• Add H2O on oxygen deficient side
• To balance hydrogen atoms, add H+ ion on
the opposite side where H2O was added in
earlier step

• Add equal number of OH- ions (same H+ ions) on both
sides
• Cancel H2O on one of the side to balance H2O molecules,
• H2O = one H+ plus one OH-
