2. The objective of doing this individual journal is to gain an increased awareness and
sharpened sensitivity to human behavior. Besides that, it also helps us to be able to
apply related social concepts into life. Among the 6 social behaviors which are
schema, perseverance effect, self-fulfilling prophecies, representative heuristic,
availability heuristics and anchoring and adjustment heuristics. I’ve taken a picture
that suits well with the topic, Representative Heuristic.
The definition of Representative Heuristic is that people will make judgment based
on the human similarity. The picture I’ve took above shows that Person A who
dressed well, looking very smart and is ready for work/school. While Person B wears
a flip flop and a cap to school and looks as if he just woke up. If I were asked to
predict who will be more on time to class, I would actually pick Person A because
Person A gave me a good impressions that he is ready class/school. While Person B
looks tired and lazy as he’s not ready for classes.
When I made my prediction, I’m actually having one of the social behavior which
is Representative Heuristic. Before Person A or Person B speaks for themselves, I’ve
already made my own decisions based on how they dress and how they look which is
Person A would be more on time than Person B. This is Representative Heuristic. But
maybe the truth is that Person A took longer time to dress himself and always late to
class. While Person A didn’t take long time to dress so he’s always on time to class.
Everyday, Every minute, Every second humans make judgment based on how
people look, acts and dressed which is a bad behavior that we should all change.
