1. Cybersafety Checklist
Do not post any vital personal information online. This includes addresses, passwords, account
numbers, and social security numbers.
Set your privacy and security settings on all of your social media tools. Most automatically set
everything to public. You have to manually adjust the settings in your account.
Use caution and common sense when checking in geo-location tools such as Foursquare. If
you’re alone, check in when you’re leaving to avoid giving away your location to a potential
stalker.
Adjust your location settings and posting preferences under your Privacy settings on your phone,
tablet, or other device.
Use strong passwords that contain a mix of numbers, letters, upper and lower case, and symbols
if able. Examples:
Weak: seashell
Medium: Seashell24
Strong: Seashell24!
Super strong: S22sh2ll24!
Avoid suspicious websites and only enter financial or personal information on secure sites that
contain “https://.”
Get a trustworthy tech person to set up and monitor your security and firewalls for your
computer and internet.
Use caution when signing up for newsletters or subscriptions.
Never give vital personal or financial information to unsolicited emails or texts.
If you find yourself a victim or suspect criminal activity contact your local police
department or the FBI immediately.
