12. It took time, but the electric vehicle is now a reality. As
consumers, companies and governments purchase,
produce and promote the electrification of the
transportation industy, the adoption rate for EVs has
increased rapidly. EVs carry an immense potential to
revolutionize energy efficiency, economic growth and
environmental health. With technologies advancing at a
rapid pace, EVs perform better, go farther, charge faster
and are more efficient and accessible today than in previous
years. However, many EV owners and manufacturers are
still dealing with the concerns of battery life. But this is
where new semiconductor technology comes to the rescue
and helps increase adoption of the next generation of
electric vehicles. Silicon Carbide is enabling more efficient
batteries that allow drivers to go further per charge
compared to the same sized silicon-based semiconductor.
Wolfspeed, a powerhouse semiconductor company, is
harnessing the potential of Silicon Carbide in
semiconductors that can be more efficiently used in electric
vehicles and beyond.
Wolfspeed is the global leader in Silicon Carbide
technology and production, leading the worldwide
transition from silicon to Silicon Carbide. The company's
product portfolio provides disruptive technology solutions
that support a more efficient, sustainable future, including
electric vehicles, fast charging, 5G, power supplies,
renewable energy and storage, as well as aerospace and
defense.
We, at Insights Success, interviewed Gregg Lowe, CEO of
Wolfspeed, to understand more about the company and how
it is driving the industry-wide transition from silicon to
Silicon Carbide-based semiconductors.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
Give us a brief overview of Wolfspeed, its vision, and its
journey since inception.
The company was founded in 1987 at North Carolina State
University by a team of dedicated graduate students who
Mohawk Valley Fab, the world's largest silicon carbide
fabrica on under construc on in Marcy, New York
13. believed in the power of Silicon Carbide as a superior
semiconductor material, some of whom are still with us
today. Our recent rebrand from Cree to Wolfspeed reflects
where the company is headed, as we narrow our focus on
being a pure play Silicon Carbide semiconductor
powerhouse, leading the global transition from silicon to
Silicon Carbide. Silicon Carbide is delivering new levels of
performance for many industries, including automotive
where our technology is being used in charging
infrastructure and the vehicles themselves to drive
significant improvements in performance, range and
charging times.
Please list the popular products and applications that
make your company stand out from the competition.
Wolfspeed's technology and products are at the center of
today's and tomorrow's innovations, powering a more
efficient, sustainable future across industries like wireless
infrastructure, power storage, renewable energy and, most
notably, electric vehicles. At a high-level, we produce many
Silicon Carbide products, including MOSFETs, power
modules and bare dies. Our newest product, the Wolfspeed
WolfPACK power module, maximizes power density and
minimizes design complexity, so it's great for engineers
working in the mid-power range.
Wolfspeed's products have specifically been used in electric
vehicles to increase power and extend mileage per charge,
which will ultimately increase consumer adoption.
Additionally, our new power modules simplify layouts to
help accelerate the introduction of fast EV charging.
Wolfspeed is committed to a complete electrification of all
transportation, which includes not only personal vehicles,
but also freight, trucking, mass transportation and more.
Describe the company and its semiconductor devices
which address the needs of your customers.
The power electronics marketplace is in the midst of a
paradigm shift, as customers are seeking greater
performance and efficiency in the design of their products
and Silicon Carbide provides a very strong value
proposition. Wolfspeed is at the forefront leading the
transition from silicon to Silicon Carbide technology. We
believe the next generation in power semiconductors will be
driven by Silicon Carbide, which provides superior
performance to ignite new sectors and extend more
established ones. In particular, the transition to Silicon
Carbide will unleash new possibilities for our company
within the electric vehicle space, resulting in longer range,
more power and faster charging.
At its core, Silicon Carbide is one of the most difficult
materials to make in the world, with crystal growth
occurring at half the temperature of the sun and requiring
incredibly specific conditions for the crystals to form
correctly. Our mastery of this process, combined with our
years of experience, sets us apart from the competition and
makes us a preferred partner for our customers.
Brief our audience about your leadership role at
Wolfspeed.
I joined the company four years ago with a goal of
expanding the Wolfspeed business, while at the same
exploring the strategic alternatives for our LED and
Lighting operations. Our company has a rich history of
innovation and as a catalyst for transformational change.
After a thorough review of the entire operations, it become
abundantly clear that our Wolfspeed business was
extremely well positioned to drive a transition across the
semiconductor industry from silicon to Silicon Carbide. The
power of Silicon Carbide for electric vehicles, 5G,
renewables, and an increasingly broad spectrum of
industrial applications would be game changing, driving
greater performance while increasing energy efficiency and
providing for a more responsible and sustainable future. We
saw an opportunity to capitalize on 30-plus year deep
domain expertise of working with the material to lead and

14. accelerate this shift. Coupling that expertise with a keen
understanding of what our customers need to meet the ever-
expanding global energy efficiency standards, while
delivering superior performance, we made a strategic
decision a couple of years ago to significantly increase our
Silicon Carbide production. Anchored by our
manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and New York,
we have established what I like to call the "Silicon Carbide
corridor" of the East Coast, with a plan to increase our
capacity by 30x and support our vision of the company as a
pure-play semiconductor powerhouse.
In my four years with Wolfspeed, we have transformed the
company while also confronting a world-wide pandemic,
social unrest and global economic uncertainty. We now
have a vertically integrated business with a customer-
centric culture. Wolfspeed has entered a new era, where we
apply our history of innovation to everything thing we do,
from leading with the best semiconductor technology to
building a great place to work.
Being an experienced business leader, what is your
opinion regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the
semiconductor materials industry?
COVID-19 has had a unique impact on almost every
industry. The current semiconductor shortage -- particularly
impacting the automotive sector and being reported on in
the news -- pertains mainly to silicon and not Silicon
Carbide semiconductors, and now the industry continues to
recover from the temporary closure of factories around the
world. However, the shortage has created opportunities for
us to talk with customers about the importance of access to
supply and what their plans may be to use Silicon Carbide
in their future designs.
As a pure-play Silicon Carbide semiconductor powerhouse,
we are investing more than $1 billion dollars to ensure we
can meet the demand for Silicon Carbide for the next
several decades. At a time when Silicon Carbide adoption is
increasing rapidly across multiple industries, especially in
automotive, Wolfspeed's headquarters in Durham, North
Carolina, and our Mohawk Valley Fab in Upstate New York
will continue to play an essential role in meeting the needs
of our current and future customers.
As a well-known semiconductor company, what
advanced technologies are you leveraging to make your
solutions more productive and approachable?
We're committed to increasing the supply of Silicon
Carbide technology to ensure all electric vehicles are
enabled with optimal mileage, power and battery storage.
Our investment in R&D is focused on Silicon Carbide,
differentiating us from the competition.
Further, Wolfspeed is on track to open in early calendar
year 2022 our automotive-qualified Mohawk Valley Fab in
Upstate New York that will produce devices form 200-
millimeter Silicon Carbide wafers. As the world's largest
Silicon Carbide fab, it will ensure we remain a reliable
supplier for current clients and future customer contracts.
We are also expanding our materials factory in Durham as
part of Wolfspeed's larger capacity expansion plan to meet
an anticipated steeper demand curve for Silicon Carbide.
Describe in detail Wolfspeed's work culture and the
company's values.
Our company values include integrity and respect;
ownership and accountability; and ingenuity and passion.
We believe that our employees are our greatest thought
leaders. We listen, and then we act. Some of the greatest
improvements to our culture, whether it is new ways of
communicating, such as the videos I now do every two
weeks or offering in-home and drop-off daycare support
start as conversations with our team. Taking care of and
understanding our employees ensures that we are not only
successful in our operations, but also cultivates an open,
inclusive and enriching environment. Over the past year, we
have taken the opportunity to learn and innovate on how we
operate, increasing pay for half of our workforce and
introducing our "Work Where it Works" program, which
provides our employees with the flexibility about where and
when they work. We also continue to foster a culture of
diversity, equity and inclusion that encompasses all
employee differences and identities. Wolfspeed
Overall,

15. remains committed to creating and sustaining a culture
where all employees are safe, engaged and empowered to
contribute to their full potential.
In what ways has Wolfspeed contributed to the
community?
As the pandemic continues to impact the communities
where we work and live, we have focusing our giving on
where we can have the most impact, and sometimes that
means being very creative in our approach. Addressing
hunger as well as supporting the financial stability of those
in Habitat for Humanity homes has been critical during this
time. That work is also foundational to helping close the
opportunity gap – which is our primary mission. We
support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
education from early intervention all the way through
collegiate programs and internships in the locations where
we operate. Many of the organizations we support and our
ideas to give back to the community come from our
employees – through our matching gift program.
As an established business leader, what would your
advice be to start-ups aspiring to venture into the
semiconductor industry?
For young professionals or early-stage businesses, I cannot
stress education enough. Education changed my life, and I
have seen the impact day in and day out that it can have on
others, which is why it continues to be a key initiative for
us at Wolfspeed. We have made significant investments
through our scholarship programs at both SUNY Poly in
New York and NC A&T in North Carolina. We also have a
successful internship program that we have built over the
past four years. It's so important that we provide
opportunity and train tomorrow's high-tech workforce for
our growing industry.
What are Wolfspeed's future aspirations? What
strategies are you undertaking to achieve those goals?
Innovation has defined our company for over 30 years and
delivering new solutions that allow our customers and
society to do more while consuming less is at the core of
what we do. As we look toward the future, Wolfspeed is
well-positioned to reach an unprecedented level of growth
as we continue to lead the shift from silicon to Silicon
Carbide, which is already bringing positive changes to the
way we live. In addition, as we experience a rise in demand
for Silicon Carbide, our capacity expansion in North
Carolina and New York will help us to supply this growing
pipeline of customers through increased production, near
term most significantly in the automotive industry, and
longer term across a broad and ever-increasing spectrum of
industrial applications.

18. Empowering Global Communities by
Increasing Access to Energy Storage Solutions
We are living in a world where the energy crisis is
a growing concern. Avoiding energy waste and
taking actions that are in harmony with the
principle of sustainable development has become more
necessary than ever. Many companies took the
responsibility to meet the needs of both our present and our
future by building solutions keeping sustainability in mind.
One such company is Aceleron Ltd.
Aceleron was formed with a mission to accelerate the
global shift to cleaner energy usage by creating storage
technology that is more accessible to all. The company
creates batteries that give people the ability to access and
use energy in a cheaper, more effective way because they
are easy to repair, reuse, and recycle physically.
We caught up with Amrit Chandan, the Co-founder and
CEO of Aceleron, to know more about the company and
how it contributes to building sustainable solutions that can
minimize the carbon crisis in the world.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
What led to the inception of the company and take us
through your role at the company?
Carlton and I met in an electric car at an energy trade show
in 2015 and got talking about the serious issue of battery
waste and the harmful effects on the environment. Most
batteries are made by welding the parts together, so when
one part fails, the entire battery is no longer useful in its
current state. We decided that between us, we could design
a new kind of battery, where every part is repairable,
replaceable, and recyclable - and that is what we have done
with 'The Essential'.
As a CEO and Co-founder of Aceleron, I am responsible for
setting the vision and the culture of the organization. I am
bringing together a cadre of excellent people to solve a real
looming challenge in the world.
Being an experienced business leader, what is your
opinion regarding the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on the EV industry? And how has your
organization managed to overcome this significant
challenge?
Covid-19 has caused much disruption in the world, but it
has also given us a great opportunity to pause and reflect on
the way we do things.
Specifically, within the battery industry, the availability of
electronic components and volatility in the raw material
markets means that the general cost of batteries has
increased significantly over the last 12-month period. This
is a wider systemic issue than just batteries in that it has
impacted the automotive sector and other sectors too but we
are definitely feeling the bite.
On the other hand, demand for batteries and renewables has
increased significantly as more people become aware of the
climate crisis we face.
Describe the company and its innovative technologies
improving the environment and costs for the clients.
Aceleron has designed The Essential, the world's first
circular economy battery which is built to be repaired,
reused, and recycled. The ability to repair the battery makes
it a 'battery for life'; after the initial purchase, the battery
will need to be serviced and repaired over time but never
completely replaced, keeping long-term costs down and
making it the first of its kind.

20. Kindly provide an insight into your company's durable
products and services serving a variety of industries on
a global scale.
Using a unique compression technology developed by
Aceleron, The Essential is built so that every part that needs
to be replaced can then be repurposed or recycled, meaning
no part should ever need to go to landfill.
It can provide uninterrupted, reliable power at several
different voltages and covers a range of high-spec, high-
powered applications from leisure vehicles to medical
response vehicles and light electric vehicles. It can also be
used individually or in series to provide an uninterrupted
power source for larger applications such as a data centre.
On a global scale, our batteries give people the ability to
access and use energy in a cheaper, more effective way. For
example, we have a partner in Kenya called ASOBO Boats
where we have replaced the diesel engines on fishing boats
with our electric motors and batteries. Not only has this
reduced the cost of operation for the fishermen (no need for
expensive fuels), but it is helping to clean up the lake,
significantly reducing carbon emissions, allowing the
natural habitat to thrive in a pollutant free environment.
As a company in the EV, what advance technologies are
you leveraging to make your services more productive
and approachable?
There are two key aspects here;
(i) the hardware to package batteries in a way that doesn't
require permanent assembly techniques (spot welds etc) and
therefore makes the battery easy to physically repair, reuse
and recycle.
(ii) the software intelligence to collect data on the battery
and know which components are useful for which second
life application – for example, some EV battery cells may
be great to power a light electric car whilst others would be
great for powering a house.
In what ways has the company contributed to the
community? If given a chance, what change would you
bring to help other Electronics Vehicle companies?
Aceleron has a strong focus on positive social impact.
Directly through the use of our products, we estimate we
have now impacted over 150,000 persons around the world.
This is just a drop in the ocean of our ambition; so much
more will happen.
Separately, we regularly help people skill up through the
Aceleron Internship Programme and team members are
encouraged to take part in promoting STEM and
sustainability within the local communities within which
we operate. For example, some of our projects (e.g. our
programme with the InterAmerican Development Bank in
the Caribbean have an element of presenting to young
people in schools and educating them on the benefits of
renewables and batteries as well as pursuing STEM subjects
in higher education.
It would be great if other EV companies could adopt the
triple bottom line thinking where consideration is given not
only to profit, but to society and the environment which
would ultimately lead to the creation of a virtuous cycle.
What are your company's future aspirations?
The world is rapidly electrifying – the need has never been
greater. We want to provide a solution to the potential
challenge of battery waste that we seem to almost be
sleepwalking into. We also want to positively impact at
least 10m people around the world through our technology
and leave the world in a better place than when we started.
“Aceleron is motivated to empower global
communities by increasing access to energy storage
solutions for its customers around the world.”

22. f someone had told me a few years back those electric
Ivehicles are the future of the automotive industry, I
would say it is nothing but a daydream. Today that
daydream is a reality, and Electric Vehicles companies are
shooting across the skies with their sustainable solutions.
Imagine a world without harmful emissions and only smart
EVs around us, making the environment healthy and clean.
Yes, it is possible if we keep the right approach and EV
solutions are definitely at the forefront of it.
What it Brings to the Table ?
Ironically, humans are responsible for the harmful effects on
the environment, and we could also repair it by introducing
such EV solutions. Yes, that’s what humans are capable of;
we have made it possible with the help of EV companies
and are ready to transform the automotive industry. And
that’s what the real challenge is, bringing a transformation
in the world through EV solutions.
The effects of the transportation sector on the environment
are becoming a severe issue. Electric Vehicles solutions are
here to control the threat caused by the automotive industry.
So, when you take your next fresh breath, don’t forget to
thank the electric vehicles industry for keeping the air pure
for you.
The Transformation that World Needs
In the smart world of 2021, our vehicles got to be smart too,
and by using EV solutions, we can keep up with the
changing needs. Nevertheless, EV solutions are the need of
the hour and the future of the renewable industry.
We are feeling the need for EV solutions looking at
renewable energy and the effect of the climate crisis in the
past. The goal should be the usage of EV solutions in our
daily part of life. The companies providing EV solutions are
passionate about creating products and services that
sustainably transform the world.
Disclosing Reality
We cannot undermine the reality, and there are not many
charging stations needed for Electric Vehicles to the
customer needs. Today it may be less, but this will not be
permanent; EV solutions will be all over the globe in the
future.
It is our responsibility to create an environment where EV
grows. Ultimately, living in a healthy and clean climate will
impact our lives, so living sustainably with EV is the way to
go. There will soon be a world of the best EV solutions to
serve electric vehicles with no carbon mobility with the best
tech tools out. There are already EV companies improving
the solutions sustainably.
Take Your Chance
Electric Vehicles are the shift of the transformation from the
traditional to the modern approach of living. Most of the
works done by the EV solutions revolve around dealing the
environmental challenges. They are the reason behind
building a culture of innovation and transformation through
its solutions. The EV solution companies allow us to reflect
on the things where we are going wrong.
It resembles more in the situation like the ongoing
pandemic where companies faced bigger transportation
challenges, and the bottom-line was the lack of workforce.
Electric Vehicles companies are built to face such
unprecedented challenges. It is about time that we replace
transportation with electric vehicles and the solutions
provided by them.
This unique technology can cover a range of industrial
solutions like high-powered applications, medical vehicles,
and larger applications like data centers. On a global front,
these solutions are completely ready to take the place of the
traditional solutions. It is ready to impact our lives and is
already doing it, and so much more to come.
It would be great to adopt the EV solutions to society as
well as the environment. Still, we have a long way to go;
creating a platform for EV solutions will take time. We
have to be ready, what the future holds with EV; in other
words – the best is yet to come.

26. Building an All-battery Powered Future
Team Addionics

27. ndeniably, electrification is the future. But, as we
Uare thinking of transitioning from fossil fuels to all
electric, there is a dire need to build a sound
infrastructure first.
When it comes to decarbonizing transportation, we need
better batteries with increased drive range, reduced
charging time, and improved safety, all at a lower cost. This
is what exactly Addionics has brought to the market.
Addionics was incepted with a strong mission to
revolutionize the energy storage industry by building the
best battery architecture on the market. It aims at unlocking
the full potential of energy storage for a range of
applications, including electric vehicles, aviation and
defense, consumer electronics, medical devices, and
renewable energy.
How It all Started?
It all started seven years ago, when Moshiel Biton, the
CEO of Addionics, was working on his Ph.D. in material
engineering at Imperial College London. During that
period, Samsung had a huge problem with their Galaxy
Note 7 phones, as they were randomly catching on fire.
Moshiel, along with his colleagues, started exploring why
the phone’s battery was combusting.
Eventually, they were the first team in the world to
investigate the issue in real-time and ended up making a
surprising discovery that they thought could revolutionize
the way batteries are designed. They found that the battery
issues in the Galaxy Note 7 were due to a known chemical
phenomenon of metal dendrites, which are metal spikes that
can grow inside batteries and make holes from within.
Through their research, Moshiel and his team realized that
the dendrites' unique structure and their way of growing
inside the battery can actually be used to their benefit. He
felt very motivated to pursue this idea, which resulted in the
inception of Addionics
A Take on Electrification
According to Moshiel, with climate change problems and
the rising interest in green energy and our everyday life
becoming digitized, electrification will be a part of every
industry. However, battery performance and innovation
hasn’t kept up with this transition. The key performance of
battery capacity, charging time, safety, lifetime, and battery
costs are insufficient today.
Moreover, when talking about electric vehicles, range
anxiety is a big issue preventing wider adoption. To get
more energy, you need more batteries, which means more
weight and paradoxically eventually reduced range while
increasing overall costs.
For renewable production, we need to store the energy
before supplying it to the grid. The world needs a huge
amount of safe and cheap batteries in order to move to
100% renewable energy production.
Moshiel asserts,“While most efforts to enhance battery
performance to date have been focused on battery
chemistry, this has only led to incremental changes over the
past 30 years. The key to the next step-change in battery
performances lies within its structure.”
Through its unique focus on battery physics, Addionics is
creating the next generation of energy storage. The
chemistry-agnostic solution allows improving the capacity,
charging time, safety, lifetime, and cost of batteries. The
physics-based solution is unique due to its ability to
improve any kind of battery chemistry in the market,
existing or emerging. The company already demonstrated.
This technology is also compatible with the potential of
next-generation battery chemistries such as solid-state and
silicone, accelerating electrification and a decarbonized
future.
While most companies
try to improve batteries
by focusing on the
chemistry - we focus on
the physics. This allows
us to achieve significant
improvement in battery
performance for any
battery chemistry.

28. Redesigning Traditional Battery Architecture
Addionics is redesigning the traditional battery structure
using smart 3D electrodes. The advanced 3D electrodes are
produced in-house by a cost-effective and scalable metal
fabrication manufacturing process, which is the company’s
main IP. The Smart 3D Electrodes are able to improve all
key parameters of the battery simultaneously, with no
tradeoff. The design supports the higher loading of active
material while reducing the internal resistance and
improving mechanical stability and heat dissipation.
The company also uses an AI-based optimization algorithm
to predict the best structure according to application and
accelerate the development process. Addionics’ product is a
drop-in solution and can be fully integrated into any battery
assembly line. This revolutionary approach creates a
significant step-change in the performance of all key battery
characteristics simultaneously at a cheaper cost of
ownership.
Rising to Challenges
Undoubtedly, the pandemic has indirectly increased the
global awareness of climate change and the actions we have
to take in order to prevent a climate disaster, such as
moving to EVs and green energy.
For Addionics, the pandemic only accelerated the need for
better technologies and solutions for EV batteries and
energy storage. Having said that, it was also challenging for

30. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are growing day by day.
There is no doubt that electric cars will be seen in
large numbers on the roads in the near future. The
only thing that needs to be uberized is the charging
ecosystem.
With the belief that the charging experience should no
longer be a hassle, Bluedot came into the inception.
Bluedot believes that the charging eco-system is somehow
stuck in the past with lots of apps and cards and ineffective
charging solutions for end-users. Thus, it provides charging
station owners with state-of-the-art tools to manage and
makes the charging experiences of EV Drivers engaging
and rewarding.
We at Insights Success caught up with Selinay Filiz
Parlak, the Co-founder and COO of Bluedot, to know
more about the company and how it is shaping the better
future of the EV world.
Connecting the Dots
As one of the early adaptors in the EV industry, Selinay had
a chance to meet with electric cars earlier than the majority
of the people and was fascinated by how they offer her an
experience that is connected, clean, soundless, and coming
with purely new driving adventure. Besides, she was always
passionate about the products and services that empower
the intersection of sustainability and technology.
Connecting the dots while experiencing the new immature
stage of electric car charging experience in her early career,
Bluedot was founded.
Bluedot’s first starting point was making use of the time
that it spent around charging behavior and questioning how
it can make most of it? Currently, Selinay is leading
operations at Bluedot and facilitating more partner
businesses to join its force while preparing the launch for
the US market.
Making EV Charging Investments Profitable
Bluedot converts EV-charging stations into a billboard with
no hardware cost. It is making EV-charging investments
profitable faster via sustainable advertisement. To do that, it
provides a complete solution that improves the advertising
effectiveness and ROI of charging stations. In this chicken-
egg EV charging, electric car times to fasten the EV
adoption in potential drivers, it has built the EV-specific
reward program, creating engagement around charging
stations.
Adapting to new customer needs, Bluedot created the
world's first all-in-one marketing tool for charge points.
This state-of-the-art digital billboard gives charging station
owners and nearby businesses the ability to track user
activity, view event logs (including charging activity and
shopping footprint), and interact with dashboards to
promote their business.
Bluedot’s mobile application enables businesses to connect
with drivers that are targeting the EV driver segment to EV
drivers who it touches upon every step of EV drivers. When
they start driving, Bluedot encourages EV drivers to drive
with it via its gamified reward program, spend their points
earned in partners' business. EV drivers can reach charging
stations in the spots they can spend time in (restaurants,

Bluedot concentrates on what people need to do rather than
what they need to have. By putting learning in the first
place, it creates a better environment. To do that, it creates a
budget and time for its colleagues to improve themselves
while working. Also, diversity is a cornerstone of who
Bluedot is and what it does. For Bluedot, diversity means
collaborating with people from different cultures and
backgrounds to create the best solutions for its clients and
increase its creativity and knowledge by working with
people from a wide range of sectors.
Moving to Next Level of Future Sustainability
One of Bluedot’s missions is to improve the ecosystem with
partner companies. Thus, it is always looking for new peers
and companies to move it to the next level of future
sustainability!

35. Long ago, electric vehicles were just an imagination,
but today it is a reality and a critical need to keep
sustainability in mind. Promoting the progression
towards producing more electric vehicles is more important
than ever to minimize the environmental threats caused by
the usage of fossil fuels. Electric vehicles have huge
advantages over fossil-fuel-based vehicles, significantly
reducing the climate change crisis threats. Shifting to
electric vehicles can be beneficial economically as well as it
will lead to less dependence on costly crude oil. Less
reliance on crude oil will lead to reduced import bills and
increased domestic energy dependence.
Shifting to electric vehicles is environmentally
advantageous and also sustainable in the long run. There
should be particular policies for the environment and
supporting infrastructure for the production of electric
vehicles. The use of electric vehicles reduces carbon
emissions. Therefore, electric vehicles should become a
norm in the future to take better care of our planet.
Sufficient efforts should be taken to develop an entire
ecosystem for the production of electric vehicles. Electric
vehicle solution providers play an essential role in
developing, producing, and maintaining electric vehicles.
They deliver essential services to the EV industry in
furthering the use of electric vehicles.
EV solution providers should make conscious
efforts to develop a wide network of
charging stations. More charging
stations are important as this will
facilitate people in using
electric vehicles even for their
long route journey, and they
can charge their vehicles at
charging stations as and when
they require. Creating
charging stations at
restaurants or tourist
spots could be
beneficial for
customers to enjoy
their food while
charging their EVs
simultaneously. The
greater number of
charging stations at
different places will be the most important step in
promoting electric vehicles.
The meaningful engagement opportunities at charging
stations for people will make their journey more interesting.
Electric vehicle solution providers should create more
charging stations with different engagement opportunities
for people to promote electric vehicles. Workplaces, tech
parks, multiplexes, public bus depots are where more
electric vehicle charging points can be installed. The
parking lots of malls or restaurants, or tourist spots should
have multiple charging points. More investment for creating
more charging stations at many places can be attracted from
different corporates. Electric vehicles solution providers
should take efforts in the direction of maximizing charging
stations.
Electric vehicle solution providers also play a huge role in
making batteries for electric vehicles. Batteries of electric
vehicles make up for 50% cost of electric vehicles.
Governments or corporates can subsidize batteries for
furthering the use of electric vehicles. This can minimize
the costs of batteries and be an important step in phasing
out fossil-fuels-based vehicles. Electric vehicle solution
providers can play a key role in minimizing the costs for
electric vehicles by creating batteries using sustainable
sources and advanced technologies and with more
innovativeness. EV solution providers should try to make
electric vehicles and batteries available at minimum cost
using innovative methods.
In future, electric vehicles will be a more prominent reality,
and therefore there is much room for entrepreneurs in this
field. Energy-saving techniques, minimizing costs of EV
batteries and creating more charging stations and
engagement opportunities at charging stations open the
door for many entrepreneurs to set up their business in these
areas and contribute more to furthering the use of electric
vehicles. Maximizing the use of electric vehicles is
certainly a significant step in minimizing climate crisis in
the world. Electric vehicles solution providers can make
electric vehicles a more common norm in the coming times
by maximizing charging points.

36. roducing a car in North Cyprus was always a dream
Pthat Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel and his associates
kept alive. However, the entrance barriers in the
conventional automotive world did not allow for new
players, so initially, they transferred their passion for cars to
different projects. They established the Cyprus Car
Museum, which contains over 150 classic cars where each
one is more special than the other.
On the other hand, they participated in solar-powered car
races by developing solar-powered car projects with the
R&D and Project production power of Near East
University. They established the most advanced
supercomputer in the region and worked on embedded
software.
The disruptive innovation in the automotive sector created
by the number of electric cars increasing around the world
showed them that it was the right time to produce a car, and
Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel established GÜNSEL. The
experience and knowledge that he and his team had
previously obtained laid the foundation for GÜNSEL.
Bringing Net Carbon Emissions to Zero
North Cyprus is located at the centre of the Mediterranean
and is a place that has sunshine virtually all year round.
When building its manufacturing facilities and R&D centre,
GÜNSEL used a design that would enable it to obtain
maximum benefit from the sun. At the same time, its work
to produce its own electricity using solar energy with the
solar panels that it will install on the roof of its facility is
continuing.
GÜNSEL Electric Vehicles is carrying out the design and
application of the solar panels that will be used together
with its team. At the same time, the charging stations that it
will establish will also use solar energy to ensure that
GÜNSEL is an environmentally-friendly project in its
production phase and aims to bring the net carbon
emissions to zero.
During the Pandemic
Being an island country was an advantage for North Cyprus
during the COVID-19 pandemic as it is physically isolated
from the world. After the flights were stopped, GÜNSEL
was in an atmosphere where there was minimal spread, and
the number of cases was lower in comparison to more
populated countries. Therefore, the company was able to
resume its production and development activities by taking
the necessary precautions. It continued its development
studies for the B9 and J9 models and facility investments.
However, due to the nature of this sector, it is working
together with 800 suppliers from different parts of the
world. The problems that its suppliers faced due to the
pandemic naturally also affected the company and increased
its costs.
Dr. İrfan mentions that the global chip crisis along with
other problems encountered during this time including
logistic processes have negatively affected the electric car
industry.
Having Innovative, Efficient, and Elegant Approach
As a car manufacturer that aims to be 100% electrical with
zero emissions, GÜNSEL not only carry this responsibility

38. towards nature and the environment but also towards its
customers and workers. The philosophy of GÜNSEL can be
summarised in three words: Innovative, Efficient, and
Elegant. It not only applies this philosophy to its cars but
also to all its shareholders including its workers, suppliers,
and customers as an organizational approach.
Meeting Safety, Comfort, Affordability, and Drivability
Expectations
Electric automobile producers generally prefer to enter the
industry with upper segment car models. However,
GÜNSEL has positioned its B9 model in the B segment.
Therefore, with the B9, it has produced a more accessible
and suitably priced model. However, when doing this, it has
also developed a model that meets the expectations from a
car such as safety, comfort, and drivability. In addition, the
use of its own battery technology, as well as carbon-fibre in
the life module of the vehicle, are among the important
advantages of the GÜNSEL B9.
Meeting Basic Needs of Society with Education Services
The Near East Enterprise, which also includes GÜNSEL,
has been investing in many sectors such as education,
health, tourism, finance, industry, and technology,
especially the Near East University and the University of
Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus for about 45 years. The Near
East Enterprise, which employs 6,800 people, is the second-
largest source of employment after the state in Northern
Cyprus, with a population of 380,000. At the same time, it
meets the important basic needs of society with the
education services it provides from kindergarten to
university, which is one of its main fields of activity and the
network of hospitals.
GÜNSEL also preserves the cultural and artistic life of the
country with The Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts,
including the GÜNSEL Art Museum and the GÜNSEL
Office Museum, the Cyprus Car Museum, the Cyprus
Natural History and Herbarium, and the Nicosia Walled
City Museum. It plans to strengthen this mission with the
Maritime History Museum and the Cyprus Archaeology
Museum, which are still in the pipeline. In addition,
GÜNSEL trains its own talents by providing training for
young people who want to join the sector with the
GÜNSEL Academy, which it has established within
GÜNSEL.
Not Just an Electric Car Manufacturer
The island of Cyprus is a very suitable place for electric
cars with its short distances and solar power potential. With
the models GÜNSEL produces, it aims to grow as a zero-
36 www.insightssuccess.com

39. emission, comfortable and accessible brand, firstly in
country, then in region and other target markets. However,
GÜNSEL has not been positioned purely as an electric car
manufacturer. It is also an energy, technology, and service
provider based on new technologies. Its aim is not just to
manufacture and sell automobiles, but it also positions itself
as a transportation service provider. With the widespread
use of autonomous vehicle technologies, it will highlight
this goal in a much more visible way.
GÜNSEL uses battery technology that it has developed
itself. By applying this technology to different areas, it aims
to create a structure that can store and transfer the
electricity it produces from solar energy at different scales.
In addition, it also aims to create new employment
opportunities in its country by pioneering the establishment
of primary automotive industry and sub-industry for the
first time in Northern Cyprus.
