This document defines communication and business communication. Communication is defined as a process through which two or more people exchange ideas and understanding, both verbally and non-verbally. Business communication refers specifically to communication undertaken to earn a profit. Effective business communication is important for coordinating human activities and integrating efforts within an organization to achieve objectives.

• Communication is an important aspect of
human behavior.
• It stands for natural activity of all human
beings to convey opinions, feelings,
information, and ideas to others through
words (written or spoken), body language, or
signs.
• Communication is an integral part of life.

• The word communication has been derived
from the Latin word ‘communis’ that means
‘common’.

4. DEFINITION
• The communication can be defined as the
process through which two or more persons
come to exchange ideas and understanding
among them.
• Communication is a language of signs and
gestures. It can be verbal and non-verbal.

5. DEFINITION
This simple definition of communication
involves two main aspects:
Process of Transmission: There is something, which is
transmitted, such as, facts, feelings, ideas, etc. It
implies that there must be a receiver if
communication is to occur.
 Elements of Understanding: Sharing of understanding
would be possible only when the person, to whom the
message is meant, understands it in the same sense in
which the sender of the message wants him to
understand.

6. BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
• The word ‘Business’ stands for any economic
activity undertaken with a view to earn profit.
• The communication undertaken in the process
of this activity is termed as business
communication.

• An organization is a group of persons
constituted to achieve certain specific
objectives.
• The achievement of these objectives largely
depends upon a proper co-ordination and
integration of human effort in an organization.

8. BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
• Co-ordination and integration of various
human activities are possible only if there is
an effective system of communication in the
organization which provides for exchange of
information and sharing of various ideas.
