3. MAKEUP IN THE PAST CONTAINED
HARMFUL INGREDIENTS (TSATALIS)
Past makeup
• Contained lead
• Some contained mercury
• Applying lead and mercury around
eyes could cause blindness
• Almost every brand used to test on
animals
Reputable brands today
• Do not contain lead
• Use ingredients that are not harmful
• Have some brands that are
hypoallergenic
• Many cruelty free options
4. DANGERS OF FAKE MAKEUP
• Many companies in china make off brand makeup that contains harmful ingredients.
• Making fake makeup (fake-up) hurts the true business’ that create good quality and
well made makeup
• Fake makeup can cause chemical burns
• Always check where you buy your makeup from to make sure that it is the real
product and you are not getting duped.
• Fake makeup can be very difficult to spot if you don’t know what you are looking
for, for the most part, if the price sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.
6. OK, WHY DOES FAKE MAKEUP
MATTER SHANDI?
• Part of Art is the ability to use the correct tools
• Using the wrong tools doesn’t work out well, imagine trying to use a sculpting knife
to paint an oil painting. It would be very difficult to do, wouldn’t it?
• Makeup is the same way, if you use the wrong tools, you wont get the results that
you want, or expect.
• I am trying to show you why I believe makeup is an art form, and this is a big part of
art in general is using the correct materials.
• Without you even realizing it, you have probably bought makeup that contains
harmful products in it, especially around Halloween time when we have a big influx
of cheap makeup come in to the U.S. from China. (Patrick)
7. MAKEUP CAN BE USED FOR MORE
THAN DAILY APPLICATION
Special effects makeup Makeup used as pieces of art
9. THERE IS MANY DIFFERENT KINDS
OF MAKEUP THAT CAN BE USED
• Primer
• Foundation
• Powder
• Setting spray
• Eyeshadow/eyeshadow primer
• Mascara
• Highlighter
• Bronzer/contour
• Blush
10. MAKEUP IS A BIG SUBJECT ON YOU-
TUBE WITH MILLIONS OF VIDEOS
MannyMUA Nikkie tutorials
11. YOU TUBE HAS HELPED LAUNCH
CAREERS IN MAKEUP
• Many make up you tubers have made it their career to make tutorials and try out
new makeup that comes out and give opinions on makeup
• They get paid to review makeup, and people trust there opinions and watch them
test it out on camera
• Some you tubers have even made their own makeup collaborations with big name
companies such as Too-faced, Becca, Urban decay, and Maybelline.
• These people work very hard to practice makeup and make it look appealing and
fun in order to get people engaged in makeup and want to learn how to do it
themselves
12. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG
WAY TO APPLY MAKEUP
13. SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKEUP
• If you want to work in special effects makeup, you typically have to go to school if
you want to be taken seriously.
• Even if you don’t go to school, you must apprentice and study someone who knows
what they are doing
• Special effects makeup can range from beautiful designs to horrible and gory effects
14. MAKEUP PRICES VARY GREATLY
• Just because a brand is expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best, and just because a
brand is cheap doesn’t mean it is bad quality!
• Some people can think of getting into makeup as a daunting task because a lot of
name brands are pretty expensive, but there are other options!
• There are many cheap and good quality brands for anyone interested in starting in
makeup. You can always expand and build your more expensive collection after you
decide if makeup is really something you want to practice and excel in.
• Think of it as an artists practice kit, you start out basic and then build it up as you
get better!
15. MAKEUP SHOULD BE CONSIDERED
ART
• Between all the different things I have discussed, I hope you begin to think of
makeup as more than just something you can wear.
• Makeup and all the different ways to apply it take practice
• Mastering all those techniques would be impossible, but its fun to try anyways!
• Makeup can be expensive if you go with higher end brands but you have cheaper
options too!
