The document discusses location choices for a music video shoot for the song "Just Chill" by Jynx featuring another artist. It proposes shooting in three key locations - golf links estates to show the artist's origins, Russell Square to depict his rise to success among professionals, and a back alley for a bag exchange scene being watched by undercover police. Shooting in these distinct areas of London would help convey the narrative of the artist's journey from the bottom to the top and undermine the police portrayal.
1. Music Video Location Choice
The song is called “Just Chill” which is featuring Jynx
2. Narrative
• The narrative of the song is involving the two artists perform
the song, cross cutting of the main artist moving from his
home (estates) to Russel Square with a mysterious bag
• While moving from one area to the other he is being followed
by two undercover agents
• They catch him open his bags and find its just CD’s inside the
bags
3. Locations
• The area in which we wanted to use as the initial area of the
artist was the estates to show that he started from the
bottom. Here we decided to use golf links estates since it was
close to the artists location but it also looked like a
“suspicious” area as such due to the police notices and
various built in cctv cameras.
4. I used google maps to find
the area and also since I
navigate around, we had a
precise image of where we
wanted to shoot.
5. Here is the specific area that we wanted to use for the bag
swapping scene, since it mirrors that of a alley way. This will
further convey the suspicious image presented by the artist
and his co artist, this will be emphasised with shots from the
police characters looking down on the two artists.
6. Having already decided to use Russel Square as the area to represent
our artists transition from the bottom to the top, we needed to
decide what part will be used and why. We decided to use Russel
Square not only because it looks nicer but also because the people
there look professional, this is because of the fact that most of them
walk around in suits and this illustrates professional status. Not only
will this show his transition from a working class area to a upper class
area yet it will show that he can target a wide audience disregarding
their class.
7. The artist’s first appearance in Russel Square will be when he is
coming out of the station, this further develops this image of
him making and distributing music as a journey. The fact that
we will have cuts to him and his co artist lip syncing in Russel
Square shows that the co artist is significant in his journey to
the top.
8. Here will be the last location which the artist will be seen, since here
will be where the under cover police catch him. The reason why we
wanted him to be stopped here was simply because we wanted him to
be stopped in a reserved area rather than being stopped in the middle
of the street. This was to undermine the police force since stopping him
in a busy area makes the artist look bad to the public however we
wanted to show that it’s the dopey characterisation of the police that
makes him look bad. They are the only ones seeing him as a threat.
9. How will this help me in future?
• We will now have an clear image of what the
location looks like.
• We know how the narrative will be conveyed.
• We are now able to negotiate travelling with
the artist without any complications.
