Examination conditions
I Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of the course, students will know how to translate tasks into projects
and thematic maps in GIS, how to use GIS software and different datasets to visualize spatial and
temporal relationships in projects, and how to later use maps and spatio-temporal data as a tool to
communicate within projects.
II Exam type
The task for this module is to produce a themed map that explains the project area and displays the
results of spatial analyses in different subject areas. This requires creating a GIS project and docu-
menting its production in line with the accompanying template chapters. The project documentation
should be brief and succinct. Please structure the GIS project according to the documentation to en-
sure others can understand and reuse it. Use the basics taught in the map creation lecture to create
a thematic map and generate a printable PDF in A0 format as the end product.
III Assessment criteria
Your examination performance is assessed based on 12 assessment criteria. These criteria are di-
vided into four areas: "Collect data for the study area", "Spatial analysis of the sub area", "thematic
map creation" and "presentation of results". The results in “Collect data for the study area” and
“presentation of results” can be a team performance result. The evaluation criteria are explained in
more detail in the appendix "Evaluation form" and "Documentation template".
10. Preparation tasks
• Identify data needs for the specific tasks
• Find datasets in your project that you can use for solving the tasks
• Find new datasets that help you solving the tasks
• Collect as many datasets as possible – It’s easier to execute tasks when you have multiple data

12. Exercise 1: Using the advanced editing toolbar
• Split some roofs at the roof ridge
• Digitize some elements located in gardens or green areas by snipping the new polygons on an existing
one
• Cut and fill holes using the ring features
• Reshape a polygon by using the vertex tool
• Merge some polygons by selecting them and using the merge function
