1. The Political Student
A comprehensive news and information website for
students and by students to educate students
about the world around them
2. Problem
• American youth, who will be the next
generation of leaders and innovators
and who will confront unprecedented
challenges in their adult years, are
incredibly uninformed about the political
process which impacts every aspect of
society.
3. Solution
• We, the staff at The Political Student,
have discovered and tapped into an
enormous undercurrent of interest in
political issues among American youth.
• Simply put, American youth know
politics is important, but are put off by
the existing methods of discovering its
intricacies.
We provide them with that resource.
4. Opportunity
• As any Silicon Valley resident knows,
there are few remaining unexplored
areas in the Internet industry, but TPS
has discovered one which remains, with
potentially lucrative results.
5. Target market
• Our target market is the average
American student who seeks to expand
his or her knowledge of the political
process yet requires a path through
which to do so.
6. User acquisition
strategy
• We will continue to use Facebook and
Google advertising to capture
customers, in addition to adding other
web advertising services.
7. Biz model
• As with most other web ventures, we
will mainly generate revenue via
advertising, with other, more creative
forms of revenue generation such as
merchandising eventually coming into
play should our website continue its
growth.
8. Competitors
• There are a handful of indirect
competitors in our space. They include
the Huffington Post and Politico.
9. Competitive
advantage
• We are better placed to succeed
because we tap into a market niche
which most of our competitors do not,
namely political news and information
for American students delivered using
methods and language which they can
easily understand and a website they
can easily access.
10. Team• On our team is our co-founder and
Chief Executive Officer Fred Feyzi, who
is an incoming freshman at Santa Clara
University in Santa Clara, California and
a longtime athlete at the competetive
level. Our Chief Operating Officer is
Shahab Moghadam, who is an
incoming freshman at West Valley
College in Saratoga, California and a
longtime political organizer well-known
in Silicon Valley Democratic Party
circles.
11. So far we’ve
accomplished
• Over 17,000 hits on our website.
• Nearly 600 Facebook likes.
• A fast-growing Twitter and YouTube
presence.
12. The next steps:
• Incorporating of interviews with
policymakers
• More content methods, such as videos.
• A complete website overhaul to make it
more user-friendly and accessible.
13. What we’re looking
for
• Financial resources in order to achieve
our next steps, contacts & experience.
14. Summary
• We are a group of Silicon Valley
students with a passion for politics and
current events which we have
discovered many of our fellow youth
share and which we thus wish to utilize
not only for the advancement of our
web venture but also for the
advancement of democratic values in
today’s ever more interconnected world.
