How to record and edit automation in live
1. How to record and edit automation in Live
My name is Sebastian La Rocca, I`m from Buenos Aires
Argentina. I am a musician and composer. This lesson is for week
3 of Introduction to Music Production at Coursera.org.
When we are working in a project in Live (Song, or any type of record
session), severaltimes we need to move things over the Mix, like change
the tune, fades, volume, etc., every knob we find in the DAW can be
controlled by the function called Automation. We can change in certain
moment of the mix all of these parameters with this function.
I`llgive you an example of How to do that in Live. In the next figure, we
see a project with many tracks, butwe focus in the Track 2 Organ Korg.
Firstat all, we have two ways to do the automation in Live
1 – Changing the parameters manually by drawing lines while record in
the Arrangementview
2 - Or in the session View
We focus in the first, automation in the ArrangementView. Click the
Automation Armbutton to record every manually change of parameters.
2. When Automation Armis activated, every change that happened in the
control while the Arrangementrecord is arm, is saved as data of
automation.
Now we are going to record automation in the Volume of The Mixer.
While weplay the piece that recorded and listen the movement, we
observea little red led indicator in the slider to show us that the control is
automated. This indicator is located in the high left corner of the
parameter.
Well, we can also record automation in the Clips in the Session View.
Change the view, click the Automation Arm button and the Arm button of
the track we are going to change.
