Sean Buvala presented this workshop at the Tejas Storytelling Conference in the summer of 2016. These slides are adapted from the presentation that teaches the working artist (such as a storyteller, musician, puppeteer, artist) how to connect with an audience and those who might book the artist. Sean says, "These slides are just the basic slide deck for a presentation that was not based on the slide deck. There is some basic info here and it is good if you are especially new to marketing your own work." "Tejas" is the correct spelling for this organization. The slide with the large V on it represents the funnel of marketing. Most people will find out about you at the top, or generally. The more they work with you, the further down the "funnel" they will get. The deeper they go into the funnel, the more you can expose them to more complex portions of your artistry.

3. “Your Name is
Really Not That
Important.”
This means that your name is not
as important to your audience (at
first) as it is for them to know
what makes your art unique,
different and interesting.
7. Not teaching you how to be a
celebrity. Rather, teaching
how to be a successful
working artist..
8. You must be
intentional about
your marketing
efforts. It is okay if
your “day job” is
marketing your art
or performance.
