An estimated 17.5 million Americans suffer from some form of depression, with 9.2 million having major clinical depression. While most treatment options are effective, only one-third of depressed individuals seek treatment. Depression costs the US economy $30.4 billion annually and has significant human costs as well, with women experiencing depression at about twice the rate of men. By 2020, the WHO estimates depression will be the second leading cause of disability worldwide.
