1. SWOT and Evaluation on Unit 11 – Script
SWOT Analysis:
- Strengthsof myscript isthat I have writtengoodcharacter developmentandyousee canthat
withinthe scriptthattheychange and people will become investedwithinthem. There isgood
dialog, forexample itsoundslikeaconversationthatsomeonewouldactuallyhave,itisn’t
unrealistic, andnomassive longmonologs. The descriptionof whysensesandthe descriptionof the
actionthat is happeningwithinthe scenes, itisdetailedsothe actorswill know exactlywhattodo,
and whentodo it. I do not needmassive amountsof moneyformyfilmandprops,Ican prettymuch
geteverythingforfree orat a lowprice.It isveryunique.
- Weakness –the weaknessof myscriptisthat itis perhapstoolongand drawnout for the
specification of shortof the week, there istoomuchdialogand the sceneswithoutdialogruntoo
longand itcouldreach over15 minutes. Shortof the weekwantedtoknow whothe target audience
were soI clarifiedthatwith them,soI shouldmake itmore clearwhoit was,of whichI have done it
isyoungadults, and adults. There isviolenceinmyfilmwhichcouldlose salesasa lotof people do
not like graphicviolence, aswell asthatthe sense of humourinmy filmcould putsome people offas
well.
-Opportunities-The storyof myfilmisdifferenttoprettymucheveryotherfilmoutthere atthe
moment, itisalsoa darkcomedywhichyoudo not see outthere as much as the othergenreslike
horror and drama.I believe it alsohitsagoodsocial issue outthere at the momentwhichismental
healthasmy maincharacter quite clearlyhasdepressionandperhapsothermuchmore dangerous
and seriousissues.Icouldgothrough the scriptand reduce the unnecessary scenesanddialog
throughoutthe script. I have opportunitiestogothroughmy scriptand whenI editmyfilmIcan cut
it downandimprove myfilmgreatlybycuttingthingsout.
-Threats- If an keyactor dropsout randomlyItwouldbe a massive threattomy filmasI don’tthinkI
couldreplace themproperlyastheyare unique andhow I image mycharacters . Alsoif I cannotget
a hand on the rightpropsneededformyfilmitcouldbe a problemasI will notbe able tofilmkey
scenesandmy filmwouldnotmake sense. A threattomy filmcouldbe thatwithnew regulations
couldmake my filmbecome ahigherage ratingresultinginittobe seenbylesspeople. Idonot
have bigcompetitorsasit a unique genre andthere isnoplotlike myfilmoutthere.
Evaluation
-Summary- duringmymeetingwiththe clientatfirsttheytoldme to formateverythingcorrectlyso
that itlookprofessional andsoitisan actual script, for example Iwastoldhow to correctlywrite off
screendialogandhowto write intexts.Igot toldto write inscenessothat the actors can findwhatI
am talkingaboutquicklyandeffectively.Iwastoldtocut downon the beginningscenesastheyare
not necessarytothe plotlike the restof the script, I wastoldto do thisas my scriptwas toolong and
couldgetover the limit.Inthe secondclientmeetingIwasjusttoldto reduce the detail andthe
unnecessarydescriptionespeciallythe firstscene of the room’sdetail. The finialinteractionof the
scriptwas that itwas probablyjusta bitlong but otherthan that itwas goodto become a shortfilm.
-The clientlikedthe ideaof the genre andthe whole storyasitis unique anddifferentthanmostof
the otherfilmscomingouttoday.Theytoldme I neededtoaddscriptas theydidn’tlike the ideaof
it endingona cliff hanger, theyalsodidnotlike the undetailedstoryboardsandthat I should
2. improve thembyaddingshotstyle andshotnumber.Ialso got toldthateventhoughthe storywas
goodand detaileditwastoolong and wouldmostlikely overrunthe brief.
-Withthe suggestionsthatthe clientsmade Iaddedatwistto the endof my storyso now it ends
withone of the maincharactersbeingperhapsimaginary. Ialsocut downon unnecessarydetailand
scenes.
-I believe thatIhave metthe expectationsof the clientasIhave improvedoneverythingthatthey
had saidto me,for example,Iaddedatwistto the endof my scriptto make the clienthappy,I
improvedmystoryboardsand I shorteneddownonmyscriptto try and run the time down.
HoweverIdon’tbelievethatIhave met the needsof the brief onlybecause itisstill toolongeven
thoughI have removedunnecessarydetailandscenes,otherthanthatithelpsthe needs,itdoesn’t
cross overany legal orethical issuesandithasa goodgenre and targetaudience.Ithitsthe
requirementsof mytargetaudience ithasgooddialogand ithitssome of the social issuesintime
todayfor example mentalhealthissuesandfeelingdown,soeveryone canrelate.Italsohitsthe
dry/darkhumourthat youngadultsandadultshave alongside some gore.
-I have producedafullyformattedstandardscriptformyshort film, itisformattedall correctlyand
meetseveryrequirementforaproperscript, alsoon the script ithas the shots nexttothe script of
where theycome in.Aswell asthat I have made a fullyformattedshootingscriptaswell,itincludes
gooddetail of everyshotandhow I wantit to come in,how I want the camera to move andwhere I
wantit to be placedand howlongwhichshot is,so I will have averyclear layoutforwhenI actually
start to film.Ithas 165 shots.
-My filmwill someetall legal andethical requirements,Iwill recordall of mysciencesmyself sothat
I cannot be copyrighted,Iwill emailthe companiesof the musicthatI am goingto use so that I
cannot be copyrightedagain.Iam alsocreatingmyown studiotitle logosequencesandmyown
special effects,Iam basicallydoingeverythingmyself sothatnothingcanharm me whenI release it.
As well asthatit meetsethical issuesasIdo not have any under18’s acting inmy filmsoI donot
have to worryabout certainfilmingrestrictions.Idohave some scenesthatpeople mayfind
offensive butgiventhe certificationof the filmthatisexpectedandthe audiencecannotreally
complainasit wasa saidbefore theyevenwentinasitisa 15. Asit isgoingto be shownon shortof
the weekIhave also metall of theirrequirementsanddonot breakanyof these rules.
-Overall Iamverypleasedwiththe finial productof myscriptandshootingscriptas I lovedmakingit
and itis a good idea.If Ihad to go back thoughI wouldtake more time andconsiderationwhen
writingmyscriptas I wentintotoo muchdetail andgot a bit carriedawaywhichresultedinmany
problemslateronbutthat isthe onlythingIwoulddo.
