Part 2E - Assessment of performance in current
lDuring the relatively short reporting period HMAS SIRruS has completed Exercise Malabar, had a short
lReriod alongside prior to conducting a fairly short but busy period in company during ASWEX and PWO
ISAW. ABCIS Harding has been consistently reliable and meticulous in the conduct of his duties.
AB Harding organisational skills are of a superior standard. He is methodical and meticulous in his approach
and always meets the required deadline without prompting. An in depth and complex security questionnaire
was issued during Ex Malabar. Harding's response set the standard for the department. He correctly
interpreted the relevant articles of several publications and provided a clear well structured response with the
probable outcome of each clearly identified.
His performance as Watch I/C and Bridge Operator is consistently reliable and well executed. He follows all
directives and is a competent Watch I/C. His voice procedures are clear and he is able to work independently
with minimal supervision. It is clear Harding takes a great deal of pride in everything he does and strives to
deliver a quality product.
Harding has been specifically responsible for Stores. The general state of stores was below standard when
Harding took over. Harding worked hard, and with only a small amount of direction, overcame all
deficiencies. The CIS Department's stores are consequently on track and efficiently run.
Harding developed an Emergency Communications SOP which will be very beneficial for all future sailors
serving onboard SIRIUS. The SOP covered GMDSS (MF/HF & VHF), Inmarsat C, and the Navtex Receiver.
As SIRIUS transited across different Ocean Regions Harding ensured all relevant Navareas were updated. He
has also demonstrated competency in retrieving relevant GMDSS Emergency Alarms and general
administration and fault finding associated with these systems. Additionally Harding delivered an excellent
brief to the CIS department. His presentation was again clear, well thought out and very informative. All CIS
sailors benefited from his presentation and once again he set the standard for his fellow peers.
Harding was tasked to assist the Lloyds representative and presented all necessary systems and knowledge in
a professional manner ensuring SIRIUS has remained compliant. This task was conducted independently and
Harding once again proved his salt.
Recently Harding was landed to prepare for discharge prior to rejoining the ship to conduct duties during a
Dead Ship Leave Period. Harding assisted the successful delivery of a defensive rider course and reliably
conducted various administrative functions.
AB Harding is a reliable and hard working sailor with a reliable track record. I wish him all the best in his
future endeavours and he will be missed in SIRIUS. I have no hesitation in recommending Harding to any
future employer.
