Saul documents how the video game Resident Evil 4 has changed from its original "old gen" version to the new remake in the digital age. He analyzes differences in graphics, gameplay mechanics, and cinematics between the 2005 and 2023 versions. While the original had limitations like stationary shooting, the remake allows smooth movement and combat. Both versions create intense and exciting experiences for players, with the original preserving the adventure horror feel and the remake providing a cinematic movie-like experience. Overall, the documentary examines how Resident Evil 4 has evolved over 18 years while maintaining its status as a truly amazing game.
1. Script for the BBC Documentary, for culture in the digital age
Clip 1, Saul: Hi, my name is Saul, and this is my documentary of how its changed in
the digital age, resident evil 4 New Gen and Old Gen, I'll also be focusing on the
graphics and gameplay and how itโs grew as a community with the people. I hope
you enjoy. (End clip 1)
Clip 2, Saul: Here is resident evil 4, the old gen version, you can tell itโs the old gen
version by how the game looks compared to the standards of games and graphics
now, being 2023.
However, it doesnโt look bad at all from when the game was published in which
being January 11th
, 2005, in which the graphics back then, this was amazing above
standard for games, and I believe that they could have never thought of achieving
where they are today in how advanced the graphics look now. (End clip 2)
Clip 3, Saul: Now we have the new Gen version, the remake of resident evil 4, you
can see that with the digital age we have advanced over the years amazingly,
making games looking as close as realistic, which is amazing โ you can see the
huge difference in the 18 years in-between each other. (End clip 3)
Clip 4, Saul: you might not be able to tell but the movement from the protagonist
seems clunky mainly due to only being able to stand and shoot, this was due to
making a โbalanceโ so you can also see that the cinematics are good for the time
however, they are like snapshots, almost like gifs transitioning into each other.
(End clip 4)
Clip 5, Saul: With the remake you can see that the combat is swift moving, you
can move and shoot and not have to stay still. Furthermore, you can make it at
any type of pace you like fast or slow, it all depends on how you play

You can also see that the cinematics just smoothly transition as soon as you run
past the door. You also get a get a POV perspective from the character we play as
and been able to see what's Infront of him, being the man with the chainsaw and
after smoothly transitions back into gameplay. (End clip 5)
Clip 6, Saul: The start of this already has your attention, your eyes are glued
through the setting that we see before us, and the eeriness with the rain tells us
that something's going to happen making it more intense.
[pause]
The intro is amazing but not as good as the first game, however, it is definitely
good because watching it makes feel as if I'm in a cinema about to watch the
climax of the movie. However, it's definitely worth playing both versions of the
games because both have their own fantastic and amazing feeling of joy and
excitement, wanting to know what's next to come. (End clip 6)
Clip 7, Saul: With the introduction of the boss fight, I think is astounding and
surprising even with it now being 18 years old it still brings an intensity feeling
because of its entrance and how it goes about killing people. From the remake
things like this what makes you miss the original game. However, in all the game
is truly amazing as well as the remake however, the remake gives of a movie
theatre feel when playing it with how up to date and realistic looks and the first
one gives of an adventure's horror game so in total both games have served their
purpose with being great games (End clip 7)
