How to start the conversation
(job change)
Salary conversations usually start early
Focus on what you’re looking for, not your
previous salary
Communicate a range, not a specific number
“That’s a great starting point”

How to start the conversation
(internal)
Consider timing
“I’ve been on this team for X amount of time and
contributed Y, I’d like to talk about how
that’s being recognized…”
“I’d like to talk about my salary…”
“I’ve been learning/practicing to do Z, I want to
find ways to apply that skill more formally…”
Talk to this + WIT stuff depending on the audience
When they struggle remembering accomplishments, go to old reviews, 360s, resumes, feedback - and if they don't have that stuff - it's time to start that "file" now. so that next time it will be easier to remember, plus that file is helpful on a shitty day to remind yourself!!
