 Henry Tam, a second-year Harvard MBA student, who
joins an aspiring start-up company.
 The founders of the company are two internationally
accomplished musicians and a 1987 Harvard MBA, all
Russian, who are trying to create, produce, and sell a
unique computer-based Music Game named as Music
Game International(MGI)
 Conflict builds as the team generates a range of ideas
about how to market their product, but has trouble
agreeing on which ideas to pursue.
Based on our analysis, we believe that the MGI team
comprises of people with different background. However,
they struggle to reach to a consensus to find a way to
develop a strong business plan. Instead of utilizing the full
resources that they have, they are in serious
disagreements, and also less focused.
 Causes
 Conflict Management-Lack
interdependence behavior.
In contrast, each member
are adherent to their style
or behavior in their own
way
 Lack of Clarity-Team
members have failed to
established clear goal to
others.
 Solutions
 MGI team members should
come together with a
strong sense of consensus
and commitment for its
team
 Team members should be
consistently and effectively
managing its goal by
planning and establishing
clear goal to each others
 Lack of Constructive
Environment-Team
members lack to manage
agreement and
disagreement during the
group conversations
 More open up to each
others’ perspectives and
back up any disagreement
or tension that they might
have
 Henry needs to eliminate personality conflicts among the
team, and get everyone to agree on a joint team decision.
 Establish a clear team leader with the capacity to influence
team members that will develop credibility within the team.
 Expectations and Boundaries must be set.
 Establish Meeting Agendas to maintain goal focus
 They must delegate tasks and be consistent in their decisions.
