5. 1. PLANNING HINTS
■ Review job to know its extent and complexity
– Follow specific standard procedures
■ Determine quality of help needed
■ Prepare list of instrument required
– Update the list mentioning specification, purchase and
installation details
■ Make list of major work categories and assign them to the
corresponding group
– Examples includes cv, meter run, panel instruments,
gauges, switches, actuators, isa diagrams and charts,
plot and installation plans etc

6. ■ Schedule the project timing. Draw a man hour vs. time
curve
■ Set priorities and make job assignments.
■ Initial documentation. Categorization. All work
documents must be filled. Reminders.
■ Report job progress/monitor job progress. Check the
schedule maintenance.
■ Make sure addition and deletion to job are well
recorded and informed.
■ Check for available cancellation if product already
bought.

requirement, and is not defected.
■ The product must meet the delivery commitments.

– Possible delay or Failed delivery due to deliberate or
proper reasons

shipping

– Depends on side and nature of manufacturing
■ Adjust work according to possible calculated tolerance
time.
■ Work backward from installation.
– Allow necessary time for shipping fabrication
installation etc
■ Engineering thing- be specific about the product

12. 4. VENDOR SELECTION
■ There are significant reason for selection of certain
vendor, specially for panel mounted.
■ Select the bidder who provide the same or instrument
with equal quality.
■ If no preference is mentioned, go economic
– A poor man,s curry is onion with sauce and spice.
■ Cost must not be the only consideration
– Labor, material, accessories, compatible
converters, quality

– Two sellers selling same transmitter at same cost
but one has 4 wire and other has 2 wire system
compatibility. Choose 2 wire to reduce installation
charge or 4 wire if existing system is compatible.
– Two control valve quote same price for same or
equal quality model, use the valve manufacturer
already in use to reduce inventories.

STORING
■ Often receive very little attention causing large monetary
loss.
■ Make sure the address is correct
– The shipment may reach site than to fabrication
center
■ Ship maximum instrument to their point of use.
– Unless devices are needed to be checked for their
associate wirings
■ Send mounting cases etc. direct to fabricator

18. ■ Received by people who can verify equipment's
compliance who knows the purchase order
specification.
■ Make sure details of receiving inspector is noted.
■ Necessary steps according to protocol must be taken
in case of wrong or defected or incomplete delivery.
This may further add to labor cost etc.
■ Storage building must be clean and dry, with proper
ventilation or isolation depending on the product.
■ Analytical instruments, control panels and other fragile
instruments must be specially noted and cared for

19. 5. INSTALLATION AND CHECKOUT
■ All instruments must be available when needed.
■ Valves, meters and other process connected
instruments should be ready when associated
lines are installed
■ Underground conduits must be pre installed.
■ Checkout should start well ahead.
■ Schedule checkout depending of which system of
project is to be run first.
■ Check for power requirements
■ Early completion of control panel is required
