Alan's Business
Objectives
Our business objective with either of
these email services is to stay in touch
with our customers. We will do this by
sending out menu specials, allowing
customers to place an order online, and
reminding customers of our catering
options. We will also send special emails
to our target audiences and carry out
specific business strategies with these
emails.
Target Audience
and Strategies
In these Email Blasts we will aim to target:
Brides with special offers for cake and wine tasting
parties.
VIP Customers with offers to attend special "Best
Customer Events."
Segmenting Brides by their wedding month and
sending out 12 emails per campaign.
Send emails out twice weekly to our lunch crowd.
Send special emails each month to people who
have purchased specialty cakes or desserts before
reminding them that the anniversary of their special
day is coming and that Alan’s is ready to help them
celebrate.
In addition to targeting these audiences,
our strategies include:
Segmentation
Both Constant Contact and MailChimp have very
capable segmentation features, with a few
differences:
Constant Contact allows for
custom segmentation as well as
segmentation by customer
location, survey response, email
reports, or tags
MailChimp allows for custom
segmentation as well as
segmentation by location and
date added
Based on our company needs, both Constant
Contact and MailChimp have sufficient
segmentation features to accommodate our
business goals. However, Constant Contact
has more features to consider, should our
email blast needs expand.
Pricing
(Based on our 200,000 email database)
Mail Chimp
$875.00 per month
Constant Contact
$895.00 per month
Reporting
Constant Contact provides tabled reports on
emails sent, opened, unopened, bounced,
clicked, marked as spam, unsubscribed, and
forwarded
MailChimp provides reports on emails sent,
opened, unopened, bounced, unsubscribed
and forwarded as well as industry
comparisons, interactive graphs, trend
monitoring and opens by location
Interface
MailChimp
Constant Contact
After a preview
and test run with
both interfaces,
and as you can
see by the images
to the left, we
determined that
MailChimp's
interface is more
user friendly and
intuitive and more
aesthetically
pleasing than
Constant
Contacts
interface.
Customer ServiceWhile both Constant Contact and MailChimp have comparable
customer service qualities, the images below shows Constant
Contact provides accessible phone numbers, a chat and email
option, as well as FAQs and Video Tutorials. MailChimp only
provides walk throughs and an email option if the walkthrough
does not help.

Summary
Final
Recommendation
MailChimp
Given our specific needs and goals here at
Alan's, we recommend using MailChimp for the
company's email blasts. While Constant Contact
edges MailChimp out in Segmentation and
Customer Service, MailChimp blows Constant
Contact out of the water when it comes to
Reporting and Interface, while also being the less
expensive option. Additionally, should we have
any other needs with them, MailChimp is
headquartered right here in Atlanta, GA and is
easy accessible for our company.
