A beam is a structural element that primarily resists loads applied
laterally to the beam's axis. Its mode of deflection is primarily by
bending. The loads applied to the beam result in reaction forces at
the beam's support points.

If a beam is originally curved before applying any bending moment,
then it can be considered curved beam. It's neutral axis no more
coincides with centroidal line. It’s neutral axis is curved without any
applied load or deformation instead of being straight.

On the basis of cross section curved beams can be of many types.
For ex.
Square, Rectangular, Circular, Triangular, I-section, H-section, T-
section, Trapezoidal etc.

APPLICATION OF
CURVED BEAMS
A particular case in which this occurs is that where the axis of the
beam is curved. Important practical applications include chain links,
crane hooks, pipe bends and curved segments of machine tool
frames.

Curved Beams/Bars/Hooks are used to resist heavy loads in
Structure like bridge, machines, cranes etc. Material used for
making these type of beams/hooks are Carbon steel, Alloy Steel,
HSLA(High Speed Low Alloy), Gray Cast Iron, Chromium Steel.
