update my skills in other areas and not limited to transport planning to benefit the team that I am
working in.

August 2005-Present LB Southwark:
The work I have been involved in for the past ten years has had a direct input into the planning
application process and the overall development of the borough. In my time at Southwark, I have
been working as a development control officer albeit in a more specialised Transport Planner role.
During my time in this role I have been involved in assessing and assisting Southwark’s own Planning
team, TfL and external developers in assessing and addressing transport impacts created by proposed
development. Whilst in this role, I advise applicants (primarily transport consultants) on how to shape
planning applications to conform to local regional and national planning guidance. I have been the
lead transport officer in many strategic applications to name a few;
The Aylesbury estate master plan in particular plot 18,
The Heygate estate master plan in particular sites H4 & H5,
The Biscuit factory
And the early stages of Canada Water redevelopment in particular the Decathlon site.
I have vast experience with regard to mentoring and managing staff. I currently manage a member of
staff, my role consist of;
• Providing them with the adequate training to ensure that they understand local, national and
regional policies
• Providing them with support as and when they require it
• Reviewing their transport comments
• Attending external meetings but allowing the member of staff to take the lead
• Allocating workloads
• Weekly/fortnightly meetings to discuss work load and any matters arising
2. I have gained vital skills and experience within my role, as a result I have been able to take on other
job roles particularly in transport policy development, implementation and programme management.
I have prepared and provided a number of responses to Members’ transport enquiries and acted on
their behalf. As a result of Members’ transport enquires I have been required to prepare a brief and
manage a number of traffic management studies which have resulted in small interventions within
the study area to the public realm and the highway network.
I have a number of years experience in Development Management which consisted of;
• Validating and processing applications
• Preparation of reports
• Gaining knowledge of the Residential Design standards (SPD) 2011, The Southwark Plan, the
NPPFF, the London Plan, the Core Strategy and permitted development rights.
Whilst working within this team I provided a number of reports on various applications from trees,
roof extensions to side and rear extensions and required to attend a number of site meetings and
visits as a result of preparing my reports. This was different to the site visits/meetings that I was used
too as I was no longer part of the consultation process.
I have had an influential role assisting planning policy with regards to Southwark’s new Southwark
Plan transport policy section; I have provided technical transport advice on planning policy, including
area action plans, area vision plans and residential design standards SPD. I have been heavily involved
in providing comments and input into the updating of the Canada Water Area Action Plan and helping
the planning policy.
2004-2005 (Unofficial/Part time) TfL Network Management.
Creation of a database to log and track planning application Network management receive from LPA’s
and Streets area teams. Liaison with area and route managers and coordination of response to
received applications in good time.
