How websites work as a marketing tool
SHORT FILMS - MARKETING
➤ Short films have less mass
audience appeal and are
usually viewed for the first
time by audiences online or
in film festivals to gain as
much exposure as possible
➤ Online marketing /

platform, for example host
the visuals (the film), give

platforms, and host print
adverts (poster or post card)

CONVENTIONS OF WEB DESIGN
➤ The home page of the websites I am
researching are set up to be clear and
informative to the audience so they can easily
interact with the text online.
➤ For example this is the homepage of rabbit
hunt - it has clear easy to use buttons for the
audience.
➤ The home page image will be familiar to
audiences who have already seen the film and
for new users and new audience members it
gives them a clue to the narrative and plot of
the film.
➤ A typical convention for shorts films is
to include a festival award page that
shows off to the audience what awards
the film has won and this helps to
promote it to the audience.
REPRESENTATION OF THE FILMS
➤ Films are represented to be
successful on websites, for
short films it is important that
they appeal to audiences
through the critical success
they have had, for example at
film festivals.
➤ It is also important that if the
small short film is part of a
large company that this is
included information on the
website as it helps to promote
the credibility of the film to
the audience

the institution.
AUDIENCE INTERACTION
➤ Ways that the audience can engage with the text is important, for example by including
links to social media platforms, the audience can share, upload, comment and tag
themselves on sites such as Facebook and Instagram. This is a free method of advertising
for film producers. Seeing a friend watching a movie via a tag on Facebook promotes that
film to a friend and can increase the viewing figures and profit for the film company.

➤ Overall I understand that websites are very important to form
a cross media marketing campaign and websites are the E-

navigate.
➤ I plan to have links to social media on my website to give
users the opportunity to interact with my short movie in more
ways online.
