Challenge: When NBC was planning to bring the
Late Night with Conan O'Brien show to San
Francisco, the NBC owned affiliate NBC Bay Area
wanted a premium that would promote the show
among their key demographic of college age and
young adults.
Solution: We designed a custom made foam
headband that was in the shape of the hair for the
"Pale Force" cartoon character. The Pale Force
foam headbands were distributed at bay area
college campuses, public events and at the
tapings of the show. The headbands were an
enormous hit with the audience members and
Conan O'Brien and Snoop Dogg wore the
headbands during the show.

Challenge: With a group that is on the cutting edge
of technology, impressing an engineer is not easy.
But stumping them is even harder! Create a
challenging experience for engineers that would
puzzle the group!
Solution: With Google's help, Onyx utilized QR
code technology, created a custom puzzle that could
be read similar to a bar scan, and tested our custom
QRC puzzle to make sure that the Droid™ or
iPhone™ scanners would read the assembled
puzzle. We intentionally did not put an image of the
completed puzzle on the outside of the box. Once
the recipient assembled the puzzle inside, they
scanned the layout in order to be redirected to a web

Challenge: Incoming President Jack
Calhoun wanted to send a thank you
gift to his employees and win their
favor for the hard work to come.
Solution: We treated 600 corporate
employees to a movie for two, and we
included a letter of introduction and
thanks from Jack. The product utilized
a corporate, Fandango-supplied, on-
line redemption component that
allowed east coast & west coast
locations access to their favorite show
at their favorite spot!

Challenge: Design products that are
unique and will catch the imagination of
LG's customer segmentations.
Solution: These non-traditional,
custom items were produced; Onyx
leveraged its overseas sources to lower
the minimum quantity required to
customize these products and to
reduce the cost of initial in-market
testing. Each of these items has since
become part of a program for LG
managers to order at larger quantities.

Challenge: Design, print and deliver a
custom calendar for a private label
products show in Chicago in less than
three weeks; less than one-third the
normal time for design and production.
Solution: Selected a graphic designer,
reviewed and selected 25 stock photo
images, negotiated reuse fees for six golf
course images, selected digital printer for
calendars and delivered finished
calendars on time and on budget.

Challenge: Screen print artwork of King
Tut sarcophagus on t-shirt to be sold at
the museum store.
Solution: Utilized a specialty screen
printer with high resolution process color
screen printing capabilities (125 line
screen vs. 55 - 65 line screen) that
reproduced the smallest details in the
original artwork that could not have been
reproduced with regular process color
screen printing. In addition to the original
order, client has placed two large
reorders for the museum store.

Challenge: Develop a brand to launch
WebEx Connect, the open source developers
language for creating applications to integrate
with the WebEx online meeting platform.
Solution: The “infinite ampersand” that
combines the strength of the WebEx brand
with the addition of all other software
platforms. Additionally a microsite and
community pages were developed to
introduce the new offering to the market. We
were also able to extend our expertise to
support a :60 sec holiday viral animation and
two :30 second spots.

Challenge: To design and environment for
Target’s health + beauty and pharmacy retail
departments as an adjunct to a case study
for store implementation in 2013.
Solution: Seamless signage, POP displays,
uniforms, graphics, advertising, direct
marketing, and product development were
rendered to allow Target to enter its own
“virtual store-within a store” concepts.
