➜ Current Preparatory students click “My Account.”
➜ New applicants click “Request Account.” Adults must create an account before adding
children under 18. After submitting account information, click “Submit & Add Family
Member.” Under “Personal Information/Role in Family,” select “child” and enter a
birthdate for the student.
➜ An audition or interview is required for all applicants. Under “Other Services,” click
“Register for Courses” and select the course “Audition/Interview for SMW.”
➜ Pay the $50 non-refundable application fee online with a credit card. An audition time
will be arranged when your online application is complete.
➜ Print out and complete the questionnaires about previous musical experience. You may
also submit a musical resume. Send to smw@sfcm.edu or mail to the address below.
➜ Composers must submit a recent score (and recording, if available) to smw@sfcm.edu.
➜ Long-distance applicants may submit a video recording in lieu of a live audition.

Deadlines Application materials are due by April 15 (June 1, for Musicianship only). Note:
the audition selection process may result in openings after application deadlines. Please inquire.
Scholarship Consideration Limited partial scholarships are available to students with
ability and financial need. Apply online at sfcm.edu/summer by April 15.
Fees/Tuition A non-refundable application fee of $50 per applicant is charged upon
registering for an audition/interview. Tuition is due after notification of acceptance.
Location, Transportation and Housing All programs are held in the Conservatory’s
state-of-the-art facility in San Francisco’s Civic Center neighborhood, easily accessible
via public transportation. Carpool information is available. The Conservatory is unable
to offer or secure housing for students.

Explore the Topsy-Turvy world of rollicking
pirates, damsels in distress and modern
major generals! Lamplighters Music Theatre artistic staff directs daily classes in singing,
acting and stage movement. Students present a fully-staged and costumed performance
of Gilbert & Sullivan scenes.
Composition Intensive
Proficiency on an instrument, knowledge of basic music theory and notation skills required.

Students explore chamber music composition, from conceiving an idea to sketching, work-
shopping and completing a final score. Chamber music students and guest artists perform
composition students’ work in a culminating concert.
Musicianship
Instrumental experience and ability to read music required. No previous music theory or ear-training
experience required. Also appropriate for current Preparatory Division musicianship students.

Experienced musicians (violin, viola,
cello, piano, woodwinds or horn)
receive intensive daily coaching in
wide-ranging repertoire. Most pianists
are assigned to a piano duo, but those
with especially strong skills may play
in a mixed ensemble. All students
perform in two culminating concerts.
String and Piano Academy
At least three years private instruction
recommended. No previous ensemble
experience required.
When July 8–19, Monday–Friday
9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Audition required
Young string players and pianists grow immensely in this course, which features intensive
chamber ensemble instruction and a final concert including all students. Ensembles vary
according to instrumentation and ability, though most pianists are assigned to a piano duo.
Piano enrollment is limited to 12 students.

The Piano Duo Academy allows
intermediate students to explore piano
duo chamber music, piano technique,
ear training, sight reading and music
theory. The final day features a
performance by all duos. Enrollment
is limited to eight students.
