some of Jefferson Elementary School
District’s talented musicians.
Music is and always has been integral
to society. Today we are learning
more about the connections between
music and success in other academic
areas like mathematics and science.
We are proud to continue offering
music education to our students and
hope to one day expand its offerings.

Established in 1918 the Jefferson Elementary
School District, located just south of San
Francisco, serves kindergarten through 8th
grade students in the north San Mateo
County cities of Daly City, Colma, Broadmoor
Village, and Pacifica, California. With an
estimated population of approximately
100,000, Daly City is the largest population in
San Mateo County.
At present, the District includes 11 elementary
schools, 3 intermediate schools, a state
preschool, maintenance unit, Central Kitchen,
and District Office. These units are scattered
throughout Daly City, Colma and Boadmoor,
making it the largest complex in the
community. The District serves more than
6,000 students. More than 20 languages are
represented, making the District truly
international.
The District currently employs more than 350
teachers and 300 regular classified
employees. The Administration is comprised
of experienced and professional people, and
the Governing Board is supportive of the
educational process.
The instructional program of the District
requires high expectations of the students.
The District maintains current materials and
measures student progress through multiple
measures on an annual basis. Current results
indicate that District students are performing
at or above the state average in most areas.
The Falcon Symphonic Band is one of three
middle school bands of Jefferson Elementary
School District and is located at Benjamin
Franklin Intermediate School, Daly City,
California.

Our Mission
Symphonic Band
The JESD Elementary Music Program
provides students an introduction to
instrumental music. Students are
provided instruction in woodwind, brass
or percussion instrumental methods.
Students learn the basic rudiments of
music and highlight their success with
an annual spring performance.
Music Enrichment provides students
with a basic introduction to music
performance and educational concepts
in music. Students are exposed to
major components of music including
history, both instrumental and choral
performance. Music Enrichment is a
course designed to provide rudimentary
and historical concepts in music.
The Falcon Symphonic Band exposes
students to basic and advanced levels
in classic, popular, jazz and rock music.
The Falcon Symphonic Band represents
Ben Franklin at annual concerts and
festivals in the Bay Area. The band is
comprised of students exemplifying
only the highest level of musicianship.
The Falcon Symphonic Band was
awarded Gold-rated performances
(10% of bands nationally) at the Forum
Music Festival in 2009, 2010 and 2013.
Our Gold-rated performing ensembles
have been invited to perform in the
Judges’ Invitational, a “Best of the
Best” competition held nationally.

We, the Benjamin Franklin Intermediate School community, are dedicated to
educating our students in a positive and safe environment to prepare them for
success now and in the future.
