3. PSYCHOINFORMATICS
PSYCHOLOGY +INFORMATICS
The scientific
study of the human
mind and its
functions,
especially those
affecting behaviour
in a given context
Informatics is the
study of the
structure, behaviour,
and interactions of
natural and
engineered
computational
systems.24-09-2018 3Saleha Mariyam
4. INTRODUCTION
• Its a product of the information era, is an inter-
disciplinary research area that incorporates computational
techniques and information sciences to study human
mind.
• It innovated how scholars acquire, organize, interpret and
synthesize traditional psychological data,with its
advantage to handle large dataset.

Tal Yarkoni describes Psychoinformatics as
“… An emerging discipline that uses tools
and techniques from the computer and
information sciences to improve the
acquisition, organization, and synthesis of
psychological data.”

Psychoinformatics

•Digital technologies are
pervasive in everyday
life and data from such
devices could be
recorded on a large scale.
•These new technical
innovations provide
support for classic
psychological methods,
such as experiments and
questionnaires .
13. What Is the Research Agenda of
Psychoinformatics ?
The collaboration between computer
science and psychology is showing
direction to many research fields.

15. Development
Results from psychology can be
validated in everyday life and
integrated into the logic of IT
systems.

Cars will recognize when drivers are
sleepy or agitated by implementing
emotion tracking vehicle tools.
17. It is also possible to investigate how the
behaviour of a person is influenced by the
weather at a given moment.

The enormous volume of data from
large samples allows the possibility of
answering many research questions,
which were previously unconsidered.
19. Conclusion
• The next decade will see an increasing number of
research undertakings, residing squarely between
computer science and psychology.
• Most might not be coined as Psychoinformatics. Many
might not involve traditionally trained computer scientists
or psychologists.
• Some might not even be aware that they are pursuing a
psychological question. Yet, intentional or not, computer
science will, to some degree, change the basic
methodologies in psychology.
