Solar Road Panels are made of tempered glass and tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger than non-tempered glass.
The road incomes can be generated through:
. Through the generation of electricity
. By transporting cleaned storm water to municipalities or agricultural centers
. By leasing the roadside conduit (Cable Corridor) to entities such as utility companies, telephone, high-speed internet, cable TV, etc.
. By selling advertising in parking lots with the configurable LEDs
. By charging people or companies to recharge their electric vehicles
1-these will be using renewable energy resources which will be reducing our dependence on fossil fuel.
2-another advantage is that they do not need unused and environment sensitive land but can be installed on already established roadways.
3- The panels will be interlinked providing you with a smart road , which could sense the car and light up only the part of the road in range of the car this will also save energy and one will know just by look that a car is about to cross .
4-The warning signs on the side of the roads will not be required , instead they will be displayed on the road through the LED’s.
5- This electronic road will be able to inform you if there is some static load ahead on the road track and automatically advise you to slow down , on any of the blind turns you will easily be able to predict if a car is approaching or not as the LED’s will light up if so . These will decrease the probability of accidents .
6-Each 12 foot by12 foot area of panels is capable of producing 7.6 kilowatt hour of energy per day . So each mile offers power to run almost 500 homes
7-EV vehicles will get more and more popular as they will be used more often. Y is that so ? These can also be used to charge electric cars. They can be recharged at any conveniently located rest stop, or at any business places that incorporates Solar Roadways Panels in their parking lots for. Owners can plug-in their cars in and recharge while they're eating or shopping.
The electronic roads will provide them the facility to charge there vehicles. Efforts are being made to make it possible that the cars get charged while moving through mutual induction . Engineers are working on it
If this happens just imagine the huge steps we will take towards decreasing pollution creating a healthily environment . Huge amount of man kinds contribution towards global warming will decrease.
8- And all those above will come in addition with the solution to the major issue of global warming . Drastic decrease in the production of asphalt + the harmful emission of gases due to it .
No more need of producing energy through combustion plants , and other ways which would cause to harm the environment.
France= covers 1km of distance and composed of 2800 m^2 of solar modules. It is installed for testing purposes and is being tested for supplying energy to a near by village for 2 years.
Then there's the question of durability. Our roads take lots of punishment from cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractor trailers, not to mention the fact that they could be damaged in traffic accidents. How would these glass panels hold up against that kind of punishment? And if we depend on the solar cells for traffic signals and power for electric cars, what happens if the sunlight collectors become damaged?
In addition, the cost of repairing these solar panels is likely more expensive than it would be for fixing ordinary, asphalt roads. The company says it could utilize a type of self-cleaning glass to keep the surface clear of dirt and grime, but this process is yet unproven.
Then there's the big problem with solar energy: cloudy days. Current solar power technology is very inefficient , Thus it can not be completely relied upon
