When evacuating the building or work area:• STAY CALM and DO NOT PANIC• Proceed to the closest safe exit away from the emergency do not use the elevator• Follow instructions of Public Safety Officers and Emergency Evacuation Volunteers (EEVs)Once outside the building, continue to followthe directions of Public Safety Officers who willdirect you to an assembly area.

In order to receive prompt notification ofemergency situations that impact the campus,the University will use text message and cellphone calls to issue emergency alerts.• YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR THIS SERVICE!• St. John’s will not share your number with any other persons or organizations.• The brief emergency text and voice message will simply provide information on location of emergency and instructions on the action to take.

St. John’s University is very fortunate to havean excellent working relationship with NYPDand FDNY as well as with the NYC Office ofEmergency Management.Public Safety is routinely informed of anyemergency affecting the surrounding communities. Remember to review your emergency contact information periodically and change your phone number on the Emergency Notification Instant Messaging System when necessary!
