  1. Sanal gerçeklik fikri, ilk kez 1962 yılında Morton Heilig (günümüzün multi-medya uzmanı) tarafından; görme, işitme, koklama ve dokunma duyularımıza hitap eden Sensorama adında bir makine olarak hayata geçti.  Virtual Reality (VR) olarak adlandırılan sanal gerçeklik; gözle görülebilir her türlü iç ve dış mekanın, bilgisayar ve internet ortamında 360 derecelik üç boyutlu bir açı ile izlenmesini sağlayan teknolojidir.
  2. Oculus, sanal gerçeklik kavramının popülerleşmesindeki en önemli aktördiyebiliriz. Palmer Luckey tarafından kurulan firma Facebook tarafından keşfedildi ve 2 Milyar Dolar gibi büyük bir bedel ile satın alındı. Google, sanal gerçelik konusunda diğer firmaların aksine daha ucuz çözüm sunuyor. Sanal gerçelik konusunda bir miktar basit deneyim sahibi olmak isteyenler için tasarlanmış bir platform. Optik markası olarak bildiğimiz Zeiss‘te sanal gerçeklik sektörüne kayıtsız kalamadı. Samsung Gear VR’a benzeyen Zeiss One VR tüm akıllı telefonlara uyumlu. Sony tarafından geliştirilen gözlük Playstation 4’ü destekliyor.
  3. Pazarlama Topshop, Londra Moda Haftası’na gelemeyenleri, VR teknolojisi üzerinden canlı olarak o etkinliğe ön sıralardan katılabilmelerini sağladı. Canlı yayınlanan TV programları da, VR teknolojisi ile izleyicilerine sanki stüdyoda oturup, konuklarla izliyormuş gibi bir ortam sağlayabilecek.  Eğitim Fransız İhtilali, İstanbul’un Fethi… Bu ve bunun gibi tarihteki önemli olaylar ya da Antartika’daki bir dağ modellenerek VR teknolojisiyle insanlığa sanki oradaymış gibi yaşatılabilecek.  Seyahat İstanbul’dayken, örneğin New York’ta satın almak istenilen bir ev VR teknolojisi ile sanki o evdeymişsiniz gibi gezilip görülebilecek Sinema VR teknolojisi, izleyiciyi ana karakter haline getirdiği için sinema endüstrisinde hikaye anlatımı da derinden etkilenecek.
  4. Google, Nivea, THY ve Samsung gibi lider markalar çeşitli reklam kampanyalarında sanal gerçeklikten yararlanmaya başladılar bile. Sanal gerçekliği, dijital pazarlamacılar için bu derece önemli kılan özellik ise, ürünlerin ve servislerin kullanıcılara daha çok önce hiç aktarılmadığı gibi aktarılabilecek olması. Daha önce ürünlerini çekici kılmak için görseller ve sloganlardan yararlanmak durumunda olan dijital pazarlamacılar, artık kullanıcılara yerlerinden kalkmadan ürünlerinideneyimleme şansı sunabilecekler. Özenle seçilmiş 80 saniyelik bir video, artık tüketicinin satın alma ya da rezervasyon yaptırma işlemlerini gerçekleştirmek için ihtiyacınız olan tek şey olabilir.
