4. Definition of shareera :
• शीर्यते अनेन इतत शरीरम ॥
(शब्दस्तोममहातनति)
The शरीरis an entity that is continuously in a
process of deterioration.
• दोष िातु मलमुलं तह शरररम् ॥ (su.su 15)
शरीर is a homogenous conglomeration
of दोष िातु and मल

6. • Sharira is name given to a body composed of
panchamahabhuta in which life abides. Living
body comprises of various structures produced
by panchamahabhuta which only trend to stay
together but also maintain coordination with
each other to keep constant internal
enivornment .
7. शरीरं च दोषिातुमलसमुदार्: । अ.सं.सू. १
Grouping dosa- dhatu- mala together is called sarira
शीययते रोगादीनां यत तत शरीर ।
The diseases deteriorate sarira
चीयते अनेन इधत काय: ।
The one , which is nourished is sarira.

10. • Meaning of kriya
One who has accomplished any act.
One who has fulfilled his duty.
व्युत्पति (Derivation) :
तिर्ा :- क
ृ - भािे कश्चादौ िा र्थार्थं च !
(शब्दकल्पद्रुम)
Root verb in this word is “क
ृ ” meaning is to do
whether the act could be good or bad ; but any
‘doing’ is called तिर्ा .
11. • Function, kriya or karma is physical
as well as psychological so both
types of functions are related to
living body.
“ When all these function are related
to living body these function are
called SHAREERA KRIYA .”
12. • According to Acharaya charak (c.su. 1/52)
samyoga that is to come together . Vibhaga
that is to go away from each other, or to
separate the things.
• Actual motion or movement responsible
for such samyoga and vibhaga is called
kriya.
