The document provides details for a load planning homework assignment involving loading 40 pieces of cargo onto a KC-10 aircraft flying from Dallas-Ft Worth Airport to Hong Kong. The student is tasked with selecting the cargo to maximize high priority cargo while optimizing aircraft weight and balance within design limitations. An attachment provides details on each cargo item, including dimensions, weight, and priority level. The student must prepare a load plan assigning cargo to the available pallet positions and calculate moments, center of balance, and verify the load plan is within aircraft limits.

Load Planning Homework (40 points)
Due: 13 Nov 2013, 0300Z
Problem: You have 40 pieces of cargo that needs to move from
your location at the Dallas-Ft Worth Airport to Honk Kong.
You have one KC-10 leaving tonight and all pallet positions are
available to move this cargo. Your task is to move as much
high priority cargo as possible while maximizing the aircraft
utilization (max weight) and ensuring safety of flight. You can
assume that all hazards are compatible for air transport.
Assume cargo is “uniformly” distributed on the pallets and the
center of balance of each pallet is in the exact center.
1. (22 points) Select the cargo that will be moved on this flight.
Prepare your load plan by placing the one item in each pallet
position 2 L/R through 12 L/R using the item number as shown
in attachment 1.
Make sure you:
· Consider the contours of the fuselage and floor limitations of
the main deck
· Ensure hazards are eligible for air transportation
2. (5 points) Aircraft utilization. Based on your load plan in
#1, did you move as much high priority cargo as possible while
also maximizing the weight without exceeding the design
limitations of the aircraft?
3. (11 points) Calculate the moment for each item in the table
below:

4. (1 points) Calculate the center of balance for the aircraft
using the cargo you’ve identified for movement.
5. (1 point) Is your cargo load within the limits of the aircraft
to ensure a safety flight? (circle one) Yes / No
