1. PAN(Personal Area Network):
It covers an area of 10 meters. A PAN provides data transmission among devices such
as computers, smartphones, tablets and personal digitalassistants.Thomas Zimmerman was the
first research scientist to bring the idea of the Personal Area Network.
LAN(Local Area Network):
It covers an area of 1 Kilometer to 10 Kilometer Distance. It is a network which is established to
meet the needs of small areas. It can be applied to home, offices, airports and in small college
computer labs.it is used to carryradio signals. LAN (Local Area Network) setup is developed by
connecting two or more than two computers with each other using a physical connection in order
to share files and data overtime. Local Area Networkprovides higher security.
MAN(Metropolitan Area Network):
A metropolitan area network is a computer network that connects computers within a
metropolitan area, which could be a single largecity, multiple cities and towns, or any given large
area with multiple buildings. A MAN is larger than a local area network (LAN) but smaller than
a wide area network.
WAN(Wide Area Network):
A wide area network is a telecommunications network, usually used for connecting computers,
that spans a wide area. WANs can used to connect cities, states, or even countries. WANs are
used by larger corporations or organizations to facilitatetheexchange of data.
