This document discusses the debate around allowing cell phones in schools. It notes that 95% of parents think students should be able to carry cell phones, while teachers argue they are a distraction. The document then examines reasons why cell phones may be distracting, such as texting and games, as well as why teachers should be allowed to have phones, such as for emergencies. Both sides of the debate around whether students should be permitted to carry phones are presented, discussing communication needs but also the potential for distraction and misuse.

10. Disadvantages of mobile phone
Cost-With monthly costs starting at $40 for voice service, as of 2009, cell phone
use is expensive. Added to that are the costs of the hardware, text messaging,
roaming, and downloading.
Distraction-Cell phones can ring in the middle of movies, music concerts, plays
and other areas where silence is required, such as libraries, bookstores and
hospital rooms. This happens despite signs and verbal requests. In addition, the
glow of cell phone screens from text messages can annoy and distract people in
the darkness of a theater.
Driving-Cell phone use while operating a vehicle has caused so many accidents
that five states had banned calls and 12 had prohibited text messaging, as of
2009.
Lack of Privacy-Because cell phones provide no audio feedback through the
earpiece, some people talk much louder with cell phones than they do through
land lines. This exposes the people around them to their conversations.
Health-Cell phones emit low levels of RF (radio frequency) radiation. Large
amounts of this energy can heat and damage tissue, especially around the eyes
and testicles, which do not have enough blood flow to carry away such heat.
There is also concern that cell phones might cause cancer, headaches, sleep
problems and memory loss.
11. Cell phones have completely changed our world. People now use them for
leisure time, business, school, and so much more. Cell phones are not just
cell phones anymore. People rely on them for video chatting for conference
calls, searching the web for nearby restaurants, taking pictures of their
travels, using a GPS tracking system, etc. The majority of people own cell
phones nowadays and people rely on them more than ever. Cell phones
have become a part of everyday life and I could not imagine what it would be
like having to live without having a cell phone. Being away at school I still
am able to keep in contact with my parents and grandparents although I am
far away from them. Cell phones are a vital service in the human connection
because people are able to have connections that the past decades never
imaged. The cell phone is an incredible invention that has altered our lives
forever.
