Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday embarked on a three day visit to Tokyo
to bolster business and political ties,but the stage for his tour was already set by
Sojitz Corp a Japanese infrastructure major. A rew days ago, Sojitz.. which bid along
with Larsen & Toubro. was selected for the contract to build the 640-km Rewari-
Palanpur stretc h on the western segment or the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
Sources said bidding for another 300 km m the western corridor from Palanpur to
Vadodra will begin on June 30.Three Japanese companies - Sojrtz. Mitsui and
Marubeni - have been shortlisted by the DFCC for this R4,000-crore project.
The R6 700-crore Rewari-Palanpur stretc h is part of the 1.500-km west ern fre ight
corridor which is funded by the JICA. The western
corridor connects Dadri. near New Delhi,to Mumbai and passes
through Haryana. Rajasthan. Gujarat and Maharashtra
The Railways has already acquired 82% of the 11.000-hectare linear land required for
