Scenario
Movie Mania, a new film magazine aimed at a target market of 16 to 25 year olds plans to go into production in summer 2015.
The magazine will be published both online and in print. You have been commissioned to research and produce an article that
defines why and how film audiences engage with films of a particular genre. You will discuss an individual genre of film for this
article and apply theories such as reception theory and star theory to it, as well as indicating how factors of media literacy,
active spectatorship and fandom can enhance the appreciation of genre and the film going experience. The magazine wishes to
cover a range of issues and genres which appeal to young people, so your article should be pitched accordingly.
