6. Today’s Agenda
• 4 Tips to Manage Manufacturing Quality Across
Global Supply Chains
• How Rootstock Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
and ComplianceQuest Enterprise Quality
Management (EQM) supports these 4 tips
• Q&A
Let’s get started…
7. Practical Tip #1
• Tip #1: Manufacturers and Suppliers must have regular interaction to
ensure product/process quality, safety and compliance to global regulations
and to meet an organization’s performance expectations.
• How does Rootstock ensure Suppliers are reacting to correct and current
information when fulfilling your orders?
– Purchase Item/Vendor Master includes Supplier part number to make it easier for the
supplier to identify your requirement.
– Drawings, bills of material, etc. can easily be sent with your order for the supplier’s
reference.
– Incoming inspection rules, sign-offs, etc. assure that the received items match your
requirements.
Let’s take a look at Rootstock…
10. Practical Tip #1
• Tip #1: Manufacturers and Suppliers must have regular interaction to
ensure product/process quality, safety and compliance to global regulations
and to meet an organization’s performance expectations.
– Supplier and Purchasing data integrity is met through the flow of
information from Rootstock and Salesforce to ComplianceQuest.
– Suppliers always have access and can exchange the latest content –
specs, labels, quality agreements, COAs, etc. – through the CQ Supplier
Quality Exchange Portal.
– Sampling plans and inspection criteria (provided by Rootstock) are
maintained to insure accuracy of the material/part/product inspection
process.
Let’s look at Tip #2…
11. Practical Tip #2
• Tip #2: Manufacturers must maintain regular oversight to Suppliers’
quality performance to ensure part/material purchases are from approved
suppliers and to adjust any plans based on quality results.
• How does ComplianceQuest support Manufacturers in keeping a pulse
point on the status of their Suppliers and provide the decision support to
ensure quality is being held to business expectations?
– An Approved Supplier List (ASL) is available and status updated based on results from
quality events.
– Supplier audits are documented with any observations on areas needed to improve.
– Supplier quality metrics are made available in a dashboard to both the Manufacturer
and each Supplier based on permissions.
Let’s take a look at ComplianceQuest…
13. Practical Tip #3
• Tip #3: Receiving and In-Line Inspections expedite the material
review process to prevent nonconforming material to be released into
Inventory.
• How does ComplianceQuest support Inspections and NMRs aiding
Manufacturers to keep the flow of good inventory for production?
– Inspectors get immediately notified when an Inspection is needed based on PO and Work
Order.
– Inspection Requirements provided by the ERP are available as the Inspector records the
results.
– Nonconformances can be quickly recorded, actions plans created or escalated to a CAPA
and notification is sent to the ERP to “not” Release the Inventory.
Let’s take a look at ComplianceQuest…
14. ComplianceQuest Inspection
Inspection Queue generated from ERP Need Inspection
Non-conformance on Material/Part
Let’s hear from David on this…
Inspection Detail with Requirements and Results
15. Practical Tip #3
• Tip #3: Receiving and In-Line Inspections expedite the material review process
to prevent nonconforming material to be released into Inventory.
– Rootstock provides the capability to inform the receiving and inspection departments
criteria that should be checked prior to accepting material.
• Receiving may need to check for things like:
– Obvious damage to cartons, envelopes, skids, etc.
– Quantity matches PO quantity or, if not, acceptable explanation provided
– Required paperwork is included and matches the items received (packing slip, bol, etc)
• In-Line Inspections checks for additional criteria that may include:
– Electrical or other tests to verify components work as required
– Schematics , drawings, prints
– Documentation is provided and is accurate, if specified
Let’s move on to Tip #4…
16. Practical Tip #4
• Tip #4: Regulated and ISO certified companies NEED automation tools
to successfully maintain detailed documentation on all changes to design
specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), material changes,
supplier changes, process changes, etc.
• How does Rootstock ensure that current data is being used when ordering
from a supplier?
– Rootstock uses both ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders) and RC (Revision Control) to
assure the most up to date documentation, material requirements, processes, etc. are
used.
– Depending on the level of control needed, Rootstock allows either ECO OR RV to be used,
or both, at the division level.
Nikki, any thoughts to add…
ComplianceQuest ensures that ECOs, SOPs and any other changes trigger required
employee and supplier training and that only the latest controlled documents are
easily accessible to both.
17. Additional Thoughts
• Always integrate enterprise resource planning (ERP) and enterprise quality management
(EQM).
• How does Rootstock and ComplianceQuest integrate quality management with ERP?
– The ERP system maintains part status information electronically. The users know what parts/revisions are in stock
and on order.
– MRP plans parts based on the implemented status of Revisions and/or ECO’s. The users are not left wondering if the
parts in inventory and on order are based on old or new data.
– Inspection failures, non-conformances and other quality events are captured by EQM with results sent to the ERP to
manage inventory release and locations. Users know that bad material/parts are not sent on to distribution.
– A maintained Approved Supplier List is easily accessible for purchasing to accept POs from only qualified Suppliers.
Users know that a supplier’s quality status is valid to accept material/parts for inspection including the appropriate
sampling plans.
– On-going quality metrics are collected from both ERP and EQM and displayed in a dashboard. Both Manufacturers
and Suppliers know exactly what the current status is of a supplier’s quality.
Let’s now see how Salesforce, Rootstock, and ComplianceQuest interact …

Is the flow of data between Rootstock and Compliance Quest 2-way, or does Rootstock only feed CQ?
