SMART Solutions:
Implementation Plan

SMART Certified Trainer: Ron Houston Date: 11/23/17

Implementation point-of-view: Technology Integration Specialist
I. Abstract:
As a TIS that supports Gompers, I will work with a grade team and implement lessons that use Smart
Notebook and are interactive. Every grade classroom has a Smartboard and the teachers would like to
have the students interact improving comprehension and collaboration. My goal will be to set up
lessons through the Notebook that do just that. Using such tools as smart labs we will positively impact
student learning. The idea that the content can be customized to the meet the student needs will
enhance the teachers effectiveness.
II. Analyze: Perform a Needs Assessment
Overview: The Analysis phase is the foundational step to a successful implementation plan.
From your analysis, you will design learning goals which allow you to develop the resources
necessary to move your team’s knowledge, skills, and abilities to the next level of expertise with
the SMART Learning Suite.
System Organization:
The school is predominately African American with about 15 percent other. The Principal there is very
supportive of technology and making sure teachers have the tools they need to teach at top capacity.
The idea of being a top achieving school is the goal from the top to the bottom of the school’s culture.
There are Professional Developments scheduled throughout the year that involve interactive teaching to
make sure teachers are armed with the knowledge they need to succeed.
Current State of the organization:
● What is the current state of your SMART Learning Suite Implementation?
● Teacher Rubric
● A google form has been created as a survey in order to assess the skill level and knowledge.
● The teachers know the basics.
● Teachers and administration at Gompers understand the importance of technology
integration and student collaboration using tools that support learning and the digital literacy
curriculum.
● The teachers need to be taught how to use the tools offered by the SMART notebook software in
more of a deep dive learning session.
● I will use the data collected from the above mentioned Google form to drive the PD I provide and
guide the direction of the implementation. I will use the SAMR model by teaching Google Classroom
showing them different ways to use it to impact their teaching and the students learning.
Assumptions and Constraints of your implementation plan:

SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan
● One of the reasons I am so excited about this implementation is that the teachers are ready and
willing to learn. They will have no issue with applying what is taught.
● There are some management issues that need to be addressed in the classroom. Strategies will be
covered and used to improve this issue and establish a strong classroom culture.
● Blended learning will be used as I am a huge believer in the results and research surrounding its
prowess. Karen Moore will support as the Smart expert and they do have common prep time/lunch
scheduled.
● Smart Notebook will be the main software we use as well as the Google suite.
● I have access to a number of resources though my office, Educational Technology, and will able to
provide student with hands on, creative, and collaborative experiences in the classroom.

III. Design: Identifying Goals, and Objectives:
Overview:
Once the Needs Assessment is complete and there is an understanding of the organization’s
current state, it is time to determine goals of the future desired state. The goals created during
this step establish a learning gap; our purpose is to create one specific goal and three objectives
for that goal to help achieve our new desired state. Our objectives are meaningful learning
opportunities to bridge that gap and achieve the goal which is the next level of implementation
using the SMART Learning Suite.
● Establish the Learning Gap:
By the completion of the implementation plan, teachers should have a clear understanding of
how to integrate the SMART Learning Suite and additional tools to produce quality lessons,
engage in formative assessment, model specific skills, and enhance classroom interactivity and
collaboration.
Currently teachers at Gompers Academics Plus do not completely understand the SMART
Learning Suite, its capabilities, and how to appropriately integrate it into their current curriculum.
It is important for teachers to receive hands-on learning experiences that will allow for enhanced
interactivity while teaching the basic skills that will allow for critical thinking. Upon learning these
skills, teachers will be encouraged to build engaging learning opportunities that were not
previously possible without the use of the SMART Learning Suite.
Design Instructional Goal:
When designing specific goals think about your learning gap, think about the following items to
guide you towards your goal:
● Consider what your instructional challenge is based from your above analysis.
● Consider why your students are facing this challenge.
● What you would like to see happen by integrating SMART Learning Suite into the instruction.
Design Objectives to achieve your goal:
2 | Page
SMART Global Professional Learning
SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan
Objectives help you close and/or bridge the learning gap that you have identified. The goal is
the desired state and the objectives are the stepping stones to reach the desired state. In
relation to your goal, where are your learner’s current abilities? Consider where your learners
need to be at the end of the year. Your objectives focus on how the SMART Learning Suite can
help you close this gap. How will your objectives allow you to get to the desired state?
Goal:
1. To increase and improve the use of technology in the classroom, including the
knowledge and skill of teachers and students.
2. For students to be involved in an interactive style of learning using Smart tools.
3. To use interactive hands on tools like Sphero and Ozobots in order to teach and foster
classroom collaboration.
Objectives for goal one:
● TWBAT use the Smart Board materials in 2 or 3 subject areas.
● TWBAT use Smart Notebook to create interactive Flipcharts subject appropriate
● TWBAT incorporate Smart Software with Blended Learning in order to give students more
intensive teaching targeted to their areas of strengths and weakness and increase the rate of
skill acquisition and progress in all core subject areas .

Objectives for goal Two:
● SWBAT use interactive lessons in a collaborative manner.
● SWBAT will be able to use devices such as chromebooks to enhance learning and
collaboration.
● SWBAT be able to use devices in conjunction with Smart notebook to improve
comprehension.
Objectives for goal Three:
● TWBAT will learn how to code and operate robots to enhance instruction and increase
cooperative learning and student collaboration/communication.
● SWBAT increase engagement in all content areas through the use of engaging hands
on learning activities.
● SWBAT problem solve using high level skills through the use of robots for coding and
other devices.

IV. Develop: Constructing activities to achieve the goal
Overview:
This may be the step that we, as trainers, are used to: Developing the process in which our
learners will gain knowledge, and more importantly, change their behavior because of their new
skill. When developing this process for adult learners, it is important to consider the most
3 | Page
SMART Global Professional Learning
SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan
efficient path to make the most impact. Depending upon the learning gap and factors such as
the level of our learners, time factors, or distance between our learning groups, consider various
options in your training and how it would best suit your organization. Is it best to focus on the
whole group at the same time, the various levels of implementation, or subject specific groups to
work together to achieve this goal?
Remember, implementation takes more than one training session, and most likely, more than one
person. Therefore:
● How will you extend or scaffold the learning?
● Can they learn at their own pace?
● Can they learn and practice on-the-job while teaching their own students?
● How can you involve your learner’s students?
● How do you involve your stakeholders?
To maintain a technology-rich environment, the frequency of technology use must be considered.
Your development task is to align your learning objectives above with what type of activity you
will develop to fulfill that objective.
Objective Set One:
Learning activities to fulfill the objective: One activity per objective minimum
● The lab which will include Shout it out tol start each class and the learners will be
involved in creating and using various Smart Labs such as Monster Quiz.
● The class will operate in centers using the Blended Learning model with one being a
Hello Smart setup.
● A student led lesson with the use of the Smart tools will improve achievement with
more collaboration taking place.
● The class will do a coding lesson using the Ozobots in story map.
● The class will do a scavenger hunt using the app Goose Chase set up by the teacher in
advance around the school
● The class will use the Spheros to code and delve into math; touching on angles, velocity,
speed, etc.
Additional Professional Development Opportunities:
As the TIS I will plan regular visits during common preps and grade groups to plan and deliver
Professional Development. There will be a Google classroom set up for teachers to exchange ideas,
lessons, announcements, and any other needed information or resources.
In addition, Karen Moore of Smart Technologies will be invited to provide additional trainings and
supports.

V. Implement: Putting your plan into action
4 | Page
SMART Global Professional Learning
SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan
Overview:
It is time for action within the implementation plan. During the actual implementation, don’t
expect everything to go as you have planned. As trainers we all have the abilities to execute this
implementation plan and assign people their tasks and deliver training sessions. In this section,
we will focus on being flexible. If the process starts to go “off track” this does not mean that we
should just stay the course. Time is precious and we want to ensure positive results for this
implementation. Slight adjustments during implementation ensure that we don’t abandon the
plan all together.
How will you ensure that your plan will work?
Through the use of Google classroom surveys using Google forms will be periodically given to keep on
top of our set goals and common understanding. Data will be uploaded to the same Google Classroom
and reviewed in grade group to inform future instruction. The lessons will be developed by the groups at
these meeting with student needs in mind.

VI. Evaluate: Measure the impact made on your goals
Overview:
This step in the implementation process may seem like a final or summative assessment of how
the implementation was carried out, but we also need to think about evaluation in every step of
this model. Continuously monitor and evaluate so you can be ready to adjust the timetable or
rescue the plan from an earlier miscalculation. This plan is intended to encompass one year, and
the evaluation stage is time for reflection and a time to begin considering the Analyze Step again.
Some questions that you may want to think about during the evaluation stage are:
● Did you accomplish your goal?
● What worked?
● What didn’t work?
● Who was most successful with their implementation of the SMART Learning Suite and why?
● When do we start again?
Evaluate your plan: The Conclusion
The plan is sound and provides a gradual way for teachers to increase their skill level when it comes to
technology and how to integrate into classrooms lessons. The students will benefit greatly from the
lessons we created because they will have a model that includes interactive learning and small group
work. Over the course the work and complexity or rigor of the work will increase and the data will show
improvement. The baseline assessment will be how we measure success on both the teacher and
student sides of the implementation.

Smart implementation plan.docx

  • 1. SMART Solutions:  Implementation Plan   SMART Certified Trainer: Ron Houston Date: 11/23/17    Implementation point-of-view: Technology Integration Specialist  I. Abstract:  As a TIS that supports Gompers, I will work with a grade team and implement lessons that use Smart Notebook and are interactive. Every grade classroom has a Smartboard and the teachers would like to have the students interact improving comprehension and collaboration. My goal will be to set up lessons through the Notebook that do just that. Using such tools as smart labs we will positively impact student learning. The idea that the content can be customized to the meet the student needs will enhance the teachers effectiveness. II. Analyze: Perform a Needs Assessment  Overview: The Analysis phase is the foundational step to a successful implementation plan.  From your analysis, you will design learning goals which allow you to develop the resources  necessary to move your team’s knowledge, skills, and abilities to the next level of expertise with  the SMART Learning Suite.  System Organization:  The school is predominately African American with about 15 percent other. The Principal there is very supportive of technology and making sure teachers have the tools they need to teach at top capacity. The idea of being a top achieving school is the goal from the top to the bottom of the school’s culture. There are Professional Developments scheduled throughout the year that involve interactive teaching to make sure teachers are armed with the knowledge they need to succeed. Current State of the organization:  ● What is the current state of your SMART Learning Suite Implementation?  ● Teacher Rubric  ● A google form has been created as a survey in order to assess the skill level and knowledge. ● The teachers know the basics. ● Teachers and administration at Gompers understand the importance of technology  integration and student collaboration using tools that support learning and the digital literacy  curriculum.  ● The teachers need to be taught how to use the tools offered by the SMART notebook software in more of a deep dive learning session. ● I will use the data collected from the above mentioned Google form to drive the PD I provide and guide the direction of the implementation. I will use the SAMR model by teaching Google Classroom showing them different ways to use it to impact their teaching and the students learning. Assumptions and Constraints of your implementation plan:  1 | Page SMART Global Professional Learning
  • 2. SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan ● One of the reasons I am so excited about this implementation is that the teachers are ready and willing to learn. They will have no issue with applying what is taught. ● There are some management issues that need to be addressed in the classroom. Strategies will be covered and used to improve this issue and establish a strong classroom culture. ● Blended learning will be used as I am a huge believer in the results and research surrounding its prowess. Karen Moore will support as the Smart expert and they do have common prep time/lunch scheduled. ● Smart Notebook will be the main software we use as well as the Google suite. ● I have access to a number of resources though my office, Educational Technology, and will able to provide student with hands on, creative, and collaborative experiences in the classroom.   III. Design: Identifying Goals, and Objectives:  Overview:  Once the Needs Assessment is complete and there is an understanding of the organization’s  current state, it is time to determine goals of the future desired state. The goals created during  this step establish a learning gap; our purpose is to create one specific goal and three objectives  for that goal to help achieve our new desired state. Our objectives are meaningful learning  opportunities to bridge that gap and achieve the goal which is the next level of implementation  using the SMART Learning Suite.   ● Establish the Learning Gap:  By the completion of the implementation plan, teachers should have a clear understanding of  how to integrate the SMART Learning Suite and additional tools to produce quality lessons,  engage in formative assessment, model specific skills, and enhance classroom interactivity and  collaboration.    Currently teachers at Gompers Academics Plus do not completely understand the SMART  Learning Suite, its capabilities, and how to appropriately integrate it into their current curriculum.  It is important for teachers to receive hands-on learning experiences that will allow for enhanced  interactivity while teaching the basic skills that will allow for critical thinking. Upon learning these  skills, teachers will be encouraged to build engaging learning opportunities that were not  previously possible without the use of the SMART Learning Suite.  Design Instructional Goal:   When designing specific goals think about your learning gap, think about the following items to  guide you towards your goal:  ● Consider what your instructional challenge is based from your above analysis.    ● Consider why your students are facing this challenge.  ● What you would like to see happen by integrating SMART Learning Suite into the instruction.   Design Objectives to achieve your goal:  2 | Page SMART Global Professional Learning
  • 3. SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan Objectives help you close and/or bridge the learning gap that you have identified. The goal is  the desired state and the objectives are the stepping stones to reach the desired state. In  relation to your goal, where are your learner’s current abilities? Consider where your learners  need to be at the end of the year. Your objectives focus on how the SMART Learning Suite can  help you close this gap. How will your objectives allow you to get to the desired state?  Goal:  1. To increase and improve the use of technology in the classroom, including the  knowledge and skill of teachers and students.   2. For students to be involved in an interactive style of learning using Smart tools.  3. To use interactive hands on tools like Sphero and Ozobots in order to teach and foster  classroom collaboration.  Objectives for goal one:  ● TWBAT use the Smart Board materials in 2 or 3 subject areas. ● TWBAT use Smart Notebook to create interactive Flipcharts subject appropriate ● TWBAT incorporate Smart Software with Blended Learning in order to give students more intensive teaching targeted to their areas of strengths and weakness and increase the rate of skill acquisition and progress in all core subject areas .   Objectives for goal Two:  ● SWBAT use interactive lessons in a collaborative manner.  ● SWBAT will be able to use devices such as chromebooks to enhance learning and  collaboration.  ● SWBAT be able to use devices in conjunction with Smart notebook to improve  comprehension.  Objectives for goal Three:   ● TWBAT will learn how to code and operate robots to enhance instruction and increase  cooperative learning and student collaboration/communication.  ● SWBAT increase engagement in all content areas through the use of engaging hands  on learning activities.  ● SWBAT problem solve using high level skills through the use of robots for coding and  other devices.    IV. Develop: Constructing activities to achieve the goal  Overview:  This may be the step that we, as trainers, are used to: Developing the process in which our  learners will gain knowledge, and more importantly, change their behavior because of their new  skill. When developing this process for adult learners, it is important to consider the most  3 | Page SMART Global Professional Learning
  • 4. SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan efficient path to make the most impact. Depending upon the learning gap and factors such as  the level of our learners, time factors, or distance between our learning groups, consider various  options in your training and how it would best suit your organization. Is it best to focus on the  whole group at the same time, the various levels of implementation, or subject specific groups to  work together to achieve this goal?    Remember, implementation takes more than one training session, and most likely, more than one  person. Therefore:  ● How will you extend or scaffold the learning?    ● Can they learn at their own pace?    ● Can they learn and practice on-the-job while teaching their own students?    ● How can you involve your learner’s students?  ● How do you involve your stakeholders?    To maintain a technology-rich environment, the frequency of technology use must be considered.  Your development task is to align your learning objectives above with what type of activity you  will develop to fulfill that objective.  Objective Set One:  Learning activities to fulfill the objective: One activity per objective minimum   ● The lab which will include Shout it out tol start each class and the learners will be involved in creating and using various Smart Labs such as Monster Quiz. ● The class will operate in centers using the Blended Learning model with one being a Hello Smart setup.  ● A student led lesson with the use of the Smart tools will improve achievement with more collaboration taking place. ● The class will do a coding lesson using the Ozobots in story map. ● The class will do a scavenger hunt using the app Goose Chase set up by the teacher in advance around the school ● The class will use the Spheros to code and delve into math; touching on angles, velocity, speed, etc. Additional Professional Development Opportunities:  As the TIS I will plan regular visits during common preps and grade groups to plan and deliver Professional Development. There will be a Google classroom set up for teachers to exchange ideas, lessons, announcements, and any other needed information or resources. In addition, Karen Moore of Smart Technologies will be invited to provide additional trainings and supports.   V. Implement: Putting your plan into action  4 | Page SMART Global Professional Learning
  • 5. SMART Solutions: Implementation  Plan Overview:  It is time for action within the implementation plan. During the actual implementation, don’t  expect everything to go as you have planned. As trainers we all have the abilities to execute this  implementation plan and assign people their tasks and deliver training sessions. In this section,  we will focus on being flexible. If the process starts to go “off track” this does not mean that we  should just stay the course. Time is precious and we want to ensure positive results for this  implementation. Slight adjustments during implementation ensure that we don’t abandon the  plan all together.  How will you ensure that your plan will work?  Through the use of Google classroom surveys using Google forms will be periodically given to keep on top of our set goals and common understanding. Data will be uploaded to the same Google Classroom and reviewed in grade group to inform future instruction. The lessons will be developed by the groups at these meeting with student needs in mind.   VI. Evaluate: Measure the impact made on your goals  Overview:  This step in the implementation process may seem like a final or summative assessment of how  the implementation was carried out, but we also need to think about evaluation in every step of  this model. Continuously monitor and evaluate so you can be ready to adjust the timetable or  rescue the plan from an earlier miscalculation. This plan is intended to encompass one year, and  the evaluation stage is time for reflection and a time to begin considering the Analyze Step again.    Some questions that you may want to think about during the evaluation stage are:  ● Did you accomplish your goal?    ● What worked?  ● What didn’t work?  ● Who was most successful with their implementation of the SMART Learning Suite and why?  ● When do we start again?  Evaluate your plan: The Conclusion  The plan is sound and provides a gradual way for teachers to increase their skill level when it comes to technology and how to integrate into classrooms lessons. The students will benefit greatly from the lessons we created because they will have a model that includes interactive learning and small group work. Over the course the work and complexity or rigor of the work will increase and the data will show improvement. The baseline assessment will be how we measure success on both the teacher and student sides of the implementation. 5 | Page SMART Global Professional Learning
