IPREP
The IPREP Program is a
post-baccalaureate research
program in the biomedical and
behavioral sciences.
The Indiana University-Purdue University Post-
baccalaureate Research Education Program (IPREP)
prepares recent college graduates who are students
from underrepresented minority or disadvantaged
populations for admission to graduate programs in
the biomedical and behavioral sciences.
IPREP is funded through the National Institutes of
Health and draws on the programmatic and research
strengths of the major health and life sciences campus
of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Training is provided in biomedical engineering,
clinical psychology, human performance and
kinesiology, medical neuroscience and addiction
neuroscience and other basic medical sciences (such
as anatomy, biochemistry, physiology and medical
genetics) toward the goal of matriculation into these
graduate programs.
The long-term goal of IPREP is to improve diversity
in the community of graduate students and faculty
for these five targeted Ph.D. programs at Indiana
University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

How To Apply

As a participant, you will be required to:
•	 Commit to full-time direct participation on
one or more research projects
•	 Attend weekly seminars/workshops
•	 Attend meetings with IPREP mentors and staff
•	 Submit preliminary and final abstracts
•	 Participate in the annual IUPUI Research Day
•	 Present research findings in poster and oral
presentations
•	 Complete IPREP and Center for Research and
Learning program evaluations
•	 Submit applications to graduate programs in
biomedical and behavioral sciences
Applicants to IPREP must be:
•	 United States citizens or permanent
residents
•	 Graduates of an accredited U.S. college
or university who have completed an
undergraduate science degree within 36
months of the program start date
•	 Members of an underrepresented
minority group (i.e. African-American,
Native American/Alaska Native, Hispanic,
Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), an individual
with a disability and/or an individual from
an economically disadvantaged 		
background
•	 Interested in applying to a Ph.D. graduate
program
•	 Committed to carrying out research that
will help to reduce health disparities
•	 Have a need to complete an additional year
of training before applying to graduate
school. (This might arise from the applicant
having little or no research experience or from
an applicant wishing to pursue a doctorate
degree in a field distinct from that of the
bachelor’s degree.)  
•	 Be willing to participate in a group
training program that is designed to
enhance your research, education and
career development
•	 Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (out
of 4.0)
•	 Addiction Neuroscience
