• While the 1990 Constitution guaranteed fundamental rights to all

equality.
• Social justice have changed roles of women in various ways.

• Existing laws are inadequate to deal with sexual offenses and Nepal
has no law to deal with sexual harassment but new laws amending.
8. • Dowry system, child marriage, gender inequalities, widows system,
violence have taken lives of people and affected mentally and physically
in many places but social justice have brought some how positive
changes in that field too.
• Maternal mortality decreasing, health facilities are accessible, women’s
education and empowerment, nutrition, family planning, safe
motherhood, reproductive health are playing great role in enhancing
women’s status.
• Abolished Sati system, provision on property rights, the right to divorce
under certain conditions, a legalization of abortion, and increased
punishments for rapists, daughter can get equal parental property, a
child can acquire citizenship in the name of his/her mother, in every
governmental office a 20% quota and 33% of seats are preserved in
parliament for women.
