Resume job app for position of Councillor
1. JOB
APPLICATION
POSITION:
DIVISION 2 COUNCILLOR
APPLICANT:
ROB PYNE
PROFILE
I have the skills, knowledge, and
understanding to achieve the
outcomes required of the position
of Councillor. I have been and
remain, strongly committed to
enabling people in South Cairns
to access the services they require
and are entitled to.
CRITERIA 1
A Good Knowledge of the Division 2 Area
As a fifth generation local, I grew up in Edmonton and bought
my first home in Edmonton. After breaking my neck, I was
hospitalised in Brisbane. When I returned home, I moved into
a wheelchair accessible home in Bentley Park. I now live in
Mount Sheridan. People know I am a real local.
CRITERIA 2
Experience in Public Policy and Local Government.
I grew up around local government with my Dad serving as a
local mayor. After breaking my neck and becoming a quadriple-
gic, I completed a degree in public policy and a law degree. I
served as a local councillor on the Cairns Regional Council from
2008 to 2015. I then served one term as a Member of Parlia-
ment (MP) for Cairns.
MISSION STATEMENT
You cannot represent the people
if your loyalty is to a party or team.
As an independent my loyalty is
to people in our local area—that
means you.
CRITERIA 3
Honesty and Accountability
As an MP, I tabled information about corruption in local gov-
ernment. I was condemned and isolated, but my actions were
vindicated when corruption was proved. A number of Council-
lors, Mayors and council officers were subsequently charged
with offences. The Ipswich and Logan Councils were sacked as
a result. Nothing is more important than honesty and account-
ability. I ensure that for myself and I work to ensure no others
betray their responsibility of honesty to those they represent.

CRITERIA 4
Be able to listen and represent people
I have always made a real effort to get out and around our
community to listen to what people have to say and then to
reflect those views. This is the essence of being a good local
representative.
