Mahavira was the 24th and last Tirthankar of Jainism who established its core teachings. He was born in 599 BC and at age 30 renounced his life as a prince to follow an ascetic path seeking enlightenment. Over 12 years of deep meditation and self-control, he achieved kevalajnana, or supreme enlightenment. Mahavira taught non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, chastity, and non-possession as the path to liberation from rebirth and attainment of moksha or nirvana. His teachings emphasized compassion for all living beings, renouncing worldly attachments, and achieving purity of soul.

3. WHO IS MAHAVIR
SWAMI??
Lord Mahavira was the twenty-forth and last
Tirthankar of Jain Religion.
Mahavira is the name refers to the Indian
sage Vardhmana ( meaning: "increasing" )
who established what are today considered to
be the central tenets of Jainism.

o Lord Mahavira was born in 599 B.C. at kshatriyakund nagar, Vaishali
(in Bihar). Both his parents King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala were
followers of 23rd Tirthankara Shree Parshwanath Ji, who lived during
877-777 BCE, 'Vardhaman' – name was given by his parents and he is
also known as 'Gyanputra' because of his lineage (Gyatvanshiy).
o Lord Mahavir was born on the thirteenth day of rising moon of
Chaitra month – this day falls in April month
o Mahavir was a prince and was given the name Vardhaman by his
parents. Being son of a king, he had many worldly pleasures,
comforts, and services at his command. But at the age of thirty, he
left his family and royal household, gave up his worldly possessions,
and become a monk in search of a solution to eliminate pain, sorrow,
and sufferings.
5. Queen Trishala had 14 auspicious dreams before giving birth to
Vardhaman, which signs foretelling the advent of a great soul....

Lord Mahavira denounced the worship of gods and
goddesses as a means of salvation.
He taught the idea of supremacy of human life and stressed
the importance of the positive attitude of life.
His message of nonviolence (Ahinsa), truth (Satya), non-
stealing (Achaurya), celibacy (Brahma-charya), and non-
possession (Aparigraha) is full of compassion.
In the matter of spiritual advancement, as envisioned by
Lord Mahavira, both men and women are on an equal footing.
Lord Mahavira preached that right faith (Samyak Darshana)
right knowledge (Samyak Jnana), and right conduct (Samyak
Charitra) and also for more knowledge about
Jainism (Mangal Sadhna and Tirthankar Charitra) together is
the real part to attain the liberation from karmic matter of
one's self.

He broke the established tradition of depriving women in
general and men of lower castes from the formal study of
scriptures and indulging in many religious activities.
He successfully rooted out the caste system in his area of
influence at social and spiritual level.
Under the influence the established norms of social status
based on caste, wealth, power and grandeur were shattered
and new norms of social status based on virtues and moral
and ethicals values were established.
The original contributions of Mahavira were Ahimsa as
basis of code of conduct and
relativity of thought (Anekant) as the basis of
spiritual purity and equanimity.

After having left behind the pleasure of
worldly life, he went into the state of deep
silence for a period of about twelve and half
years. During this period, he learnt to control
his feelings and desires. For quite a long time,
he went without food. His search for truth and
real virtues of life made people call him
Mahavira.

SUPREME
Mahavira, a great prophet and teacher,
systematised the Jain doctorines and
embodied them in a comprehensive
constitution of the faith. He built the
edifice of Jainism by
renovation modification and extention.
Most of all, he infused new life and vitality
into Arhata tradition.
11. JAINISM MEANS NOT
HARMING
He preached that truth and clean living
were the priorities in life, as was non-
violence. Till today, Jains do not even
harm a fly or a mosquito. True Jains tie
a cloth around their mouth, so as not to
breathe in or destroy living organisms
in the atmosphere....

Mahavira said that the one who
rejects his own existence; and the
one who rejects his own existence
rejects the existence of the world.
