 Lord Mahavira denounced the worship of gods and
goddesses as a means of salvation.
 He taught the idea of supremacy of human life and stressed
the importance of the positive attitude of life.
 His message of nonviolence (Ahinsa), truth (Satya), non-
stealing (Achaurya), celibacy (Brahma-charya), and non-
possession (Aparigraha) is full of compassion.
 In the matter of spiritual advancement, as envisioned by
Lord Mahavira, both men and women are on an equal footing.
 Lord Mahavira preached that right faith (Samyak Darshana)
right knowledge (Samyak Jnana), and right conduct (Samyak
Charitra) and also for more knowledge about

 He broke the established tradition of depriving women in
general and men of lower castes from the formal study of
scriptures and indulging in many religious activities.
 He successfully rooted out the caste system in his area of
influence at social and spiritual level.
 Under the influence the established norms of social status
based on caste, wealth, power and grandeur were shattered
and new norms of social status based on virtues and moral
and ethicals values were established.
 The original contributions of Mahavira were Ahimsa as
basis of code of conduct and
relativity of thought (Anekant) as the basis of
spiritual purity and equanimity.
REINCARNATION
 From Hinduism....
 The soul is eternal, reborn over and over....
 May be in animal or inanimate form everything - everything - has a soul....
 Only the human form can stop the cycle....
AWAKENIN
G AND
ENLIGHTE
NMENT
After having left behind the pleasure of
worldly life, he went into the state of deep
silence for a period of about twelve and half
years. During this period, he learnt to control
his feelings and desires. For quite a long time,
he went without food. His search for truth and
real virtues of life made people call him
Mahavira.
LORD MAHAVIRA: NON-
VIOLENT SEARCH FOR
SUPREME
 Mahavira, a great prophet and teacher,
systematised the Jain doctorines and
embodied them in a comprehensive
constitution of the faith. He built the
edifice of Jainism by
renovation modification and extention.
Most of all, he infused new life and vitality
into Arhata tradition.
JAINISM MEANS NOT
HARMING
He preached that truth and clean living
were the priorities in life, as was non-
violence. Till today, Jains do not even
harm a fly or a mosquito. True Jains tie
a cloth around their mouth, so as not to
breathe in or destroy living organisms
in the atmosphere....
ACCEPT ALL AS ONE
 Mahavira said that the one who
rejects his own existence; and the
one who rejects his own existence
rejects the existence of the world.
MAHAVIRA ADVISES THE
HUMANITY
 Do not reject the existence of the
world and do not reject your
existence as well. The most
important principle of environment
is that you are not the only element.
When you do something for yourself
you must know your actions will
impact the entire world. So what can
an individual do? How do his actions
affect the rest of the world?
PUNCH LINES
" There's no knowledge without right faith, No conduct is possible
without knowledge, Without conduct, there's no liberation, And
without liberation, no deliverance."
- Mahavira
HAVE COMPASSION
 Live and let live.......Love
all – Serve all.
 Where there is - Love
there is life....Violence is
Suicide....
 Have compassion toward
s all living beings –
Hatred
leads Destruction....
NON-VIOLENCE HIGHEST
RELIGION
 Silence and Self control is
non-violence....
 Respect for all living beings is
non- violence....
 Non-violence is the
highest religion....
 The same man is regarded simultaneously
as son, father, son-in-law, nephew, uncle,
brother, cousin, husband and so on....yet
there is no contradiction owing to an
understood relationship ….
 Which is termed as Jainism as syadvada....
THE JAIN THEORY ON
RELATIONSHIPS
ATTAIN GOD HOOD
 God is neither the creator nor the
destructor of the universe. He is
merely a silent observer and
omniscient....
 Know thyself, recognize by thyself -
you will attain Godhood.
GREED DESTROYS HUMAN
NATURE...
 Anger spoils good relations, pride
destroys humility, deceit is
detrimental to friendship, while
greed destroys human...
NAVKAR MANTRA...
 The Navkar Mantra contains the
foremost message of Jainism....The
message is very clear. If we want to
be liberated from the cycle of life and
death, we rennounce worldy affairs by
becoming a monk or a nun....
JAINISM LEADS TO PEACE
AND PURITY...
 Three Jewels of Right Faith, Right
Knowledge & Right Conduct are the path
leading to peace and purity Jainism....
NIRVANA AND MOKSHA
