The Persian tiger or Caspian tiger (Panthera tigris virgata) is now extinct. It lived in areas including Anatolia, the Caucasus, Kurdistan, Iraq, north of Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. It had a yellow to gold coat with brown striped instead of black, and lived a solitary life outside of breeding season. The Caspian tiger became extinct due to being hunted by Romans for arena fights with gladiators and being hunted by Russians in its habitat.
