Changes to Bank Account Plus
At HSBC we like to make sure that our customers are getting the most from
banking with us. That’s why we’re constantly evolving our services to ensure we
meet your expectations.
So when our customers said that there were some changes they’d like to see to
Bank Account Plus, we listened. Alongside simplifying the name to ‘HSBC Plus’
which will take place with immediate effect, we’ve added some new benefits,
changed some of the existing ones, removed some features and kept others.
The monthly subscription fee, which is currently £12.95, and the initial minimum
12-month contract, renewable monthly thereafter, remain the same.
Your new benefits are available from 1 September 2008 and Text Banking is due
to be launched in October 2008. The benefits that will no longer be available
and those benefits that are changing will take effect on 13 October 2008 with
the exception of credit card refund benefit, which will take effect on 3 October
2008. Within 60 days of the removal date we will credit your credit card with any
interest refund earned.

Changes to our Terms and Conditions
Please be aware that we have also reviewed and updated our Terms and Conditions.
Details of the changes are set out in the section headed “Changes to our Terms
and Conditions” on the reverse of this letter.

together with Life Cover policy terms and conditions and HSBC Roadside Breakdown

10. The finER details
General
The terms set out below apply in addition to
our General Terms and Current Account Terms
except where indicated otherwise.
All offers and discounts in this brochure are only
available to customers who hold HSBC Plus
and continue to hold HSBC Plus. If HSBC Plus
is no longer held, HSBC reserves the right to
remove any discounts or preferential rates and
revert products to standard terms. All offers and
discounts cannot be used in conjunction with
other offers and discounts.
All rates and prices in this brochure are correct
as at 1 September 2008 but may change in
the future. All our credit facilities and current
accounts are subject to status.
Plus subscription
HSBC Plus has an initial fixed term of 12 months
after which it is renewable monthly. A monthly
subscription fee of £12.95 is currently payable.
Cancellation
You have the right to cancel HSBC Plus during the
first 14 days of taking out the HSBC Plus service
with a full refund of any monthly fees taken.
For applications completed by telephone the
cancellation period will start from the day that
you receive the terms and conditions in the post.
We will refund you with any monthly fees you
have already paid and no future fees will be
deducted.
After the 14-day cooling off period, you will not
be able to cancel within the initial 12 months and
you will be required to make the HSBC Plus
monthly payments during this time. However, if
you have not used any of the benefits of HSBC
Plus (excluding preferential credit interest) then
you will be able to cancel within the initial 12-month
term subject to you paying us a fee of £12.95.
This fee will be automatically deducted from your
HSBC Plus Bank Account before it is closed.
You can cancel your Life Cover policy within
30 days of receiving your policy document but
there will be no refund of premium or reduction
in fees.
You will not be able to take out HSBC Plus
again for a period of 6 months from the
cancellation date.
If at any time we consider that you have ceased
to be eligible for HSBC Plus, then we will give
you 30 days’ notice by post and you will be
transferred to Current Account Advance. We
reserve the right to decline applications for any
product, account or service. Our credit facilities
are subject to status. Branch Banking is subject
to local branch opening hours.
Telephone and Internet and Branch Banking
24/7 Telephone Banking will be available within
30 days of opening your account. When you call
08457 404 404, lines are open 24 hours a day
if you successfully identify yourself through our
automated telephone service. Our Telephone
Banking and Internet Banking services are subject
to scheduled maintenance periods. To help us
continually improve our service, and in the interests
of security, we may monitor and/or record your
communications with us. Branch Banking is subject
to local branch opening hours.
Credit Interest
You’ll get a great rate on the first £1,000 in your
HSBC Plus Bank Account. Interest is variable and
paid monthly in your HSBC Plus Bank Account.
Gross: The rate before the deduction of tax
applicable to interest on savings.
AER: Annual Equivalent Rate:This is the notional
rate which illustrates what the gross rate would
be if interest were paid and compounded
each year.
Overdraft Service
The HSBC Overdraft Service is available subject
to status. Please refer to the price list in
branches, online or by calling 0800 218 2253**
HSBC Roadside Breakdown Assistance
This 24 hour service gives you peace of mind,
covering you whether you are a driver or a
passenger of any eligible vehicle. You are
covered for emergency roadside repairs and
local recovery to the nearest suitable garage. In
addition we will provide national recovery of the
vehicle to any UK destination if we are unable
to arrange a prompt local repair. Only available
to HSBC Plus customers and is subject to
exclusions and limits of cover. Terms and
conditions apply.
Life Cover
As an HSBC Plus customer, you’re entitled to a
£3,000 benefit for your beneficiary upon death
under the age of 65. An Accidental Death Benefit
of £3,000 is applicable from age 65 onwards. If
this is a joint account, cover is provided to each
account holder. LifeChoices is not available to
customers in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of
Man. Policy terms and conditions apply.
Extensive Worldwide Travel Insurance
Not available to customers aged 70 years or over.

Worldwide cash withdrawals free of HSBC
ATM transaction fees
Some Cirrus/Maestro members may apply a
direct charge for withdrawals from their cash
machines and this will be advised on the screen
at the time of withdrawal. Foreign currency
exchange rates are shown on your statement
against each transaction inclusive of an
adjustment, which is currently 2.75%.
Mortgages
As an HSBC Plus customer you may enjoy
preferential mortgage terms or rates. The
preferential mortgage terms are available to
customers who have HSBC Plus when they
apply for a mortgage product or transfer their
existing mortgage to a mortgage with HSBC.
The preferential mortgage terms that apply to
HSBC Plus customers will vary from time to
time. Any preferential discounts may not be used
in conjunction with any other promotional or
special mortgage offers, Buy To Let mortgages
and mortgages taken out with first direct.

website hsbc.co.uk/mortgages. Our mortgages
and other loans are subject to security and
status. An all monies charge will be taken over
the property. If you no longer hold HSBC Plus
we may withdraw the preferential rate.
Your home may be repossessed if you do
not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
Repayment Reward on Personal Loans
As an HSBC Plus customer, you are entitled to
a 10% Repayment Reward on Personal Loans.
We’ll refund 10% of the interest you have
paid on the loan when you complete your loan
repayments. The offer only applies to loans with
more than 24 scheduled repayments and it will
not apply if the loan is repaid early by you or
terminated by us.
9.9% APR typical for Personal Loans between
£7,000 and £25,000 where the loan is for home
improvements or a car.
Cash ISA, Flexible Saver and Regular Saver
Cash ISAs are available to anyone 16 years or
over, provided you are resident and ordinarily
resident in the UK for tax purposes, or you are
performing duties as a UK Crown employee
serving overseas or are married to, or in a civil
partnership with, such a person. Cash ISAs are
not available to customers in Jersey, Guernsey
or the Isle of Man.
For Regular Saver, no withdrawals are allowed
during the 12-month term.
Please note that Regular Saver accounts are
not offered all the time, but when they are
on sale they are available to HSBC Premier,
HSBC Plus, Passport and Current Account
Advance customers. HSBC Premier, HSBC
Plus and Passport customers are entitled
to a preferential rate. For details of whether
Regular Saver is presently on sale and of the
preferential rate, please ask us.
Leisure Offers
Offers are not valid in conjunction with any
other promotions. Offers are not valid on sale
items or other discounted items. All offers are
subject to availability and individual venues and
retailers terms and conditions apply.
For customers of branches in Jersey, Guernsey

residing in the EU, credit interest may be
