To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Richard Byington a graduate of our medical coding
training program. Career Step’s program is very comprehensive, comprising medical word building,
pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes,as well as training in how to recognize and look up
codes, code differentiation, abbreviations, and other coding essentials. Our students learn medical coding by
completing hundreds of exercises and coding over 300 actual medical reports using the AHA ICD-10-CM,ICD-
10-PCS, CPT,and HCPCS coding manuals. The curriculum and practical application portion of our program
includes reports of all types including: Consultations, Emergency Room reports, History and Physical reports,
Laboratory reports, Operative reports, Physician Orders, Procedure Notes,Progress Notes,Radiology reports,
Pathology reports, and Discharge Summaries. A significant portion of the program also covers Evaluation and
Management coding for each type of E/M service. Our students receive access to 3M Encoder Software and learn
how to appropriately assign DRGs for inpatient records.
In addition, our students learn to audit codes on claim forms and train in all aspects of healthcare reimbursement.
Having completed the billing portion of the course, students are able to accurately fill out CMS-1500 and UB-04
claim forms and follow the claim through its submission, processing, adjudication, and payment. They are also
well trained in the process of managing, appealing, and submitting claims for various third-party payers including
Medicaid and Medicare as well as liability and worker’s compensation.
Upon completion of our training, each student takes our final exam, which tests graduates in areas covering
medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, disease processes, diagnostic coding, and medical procedural
coding. The final exam demands a comprehensive and practical knowledge and application of ICD-10-CM and
ICD-10-PCS coding.
Richard has completed our training program, passed the final exam, and received a certificate of Graduation. To
have succeeded in doing that indicates motivation, self-discipline, and the ability to achieve worthwhile goals. He
will undoubtedly do a fine job for you. Our program includes postgraduate services for our students, and we are
available for help and consultation as they begin to produce in the actual workplace.
Our graduates are presently working as medical coders all across the country, and employers who hire them are
pleased, and sometimes surprised, that they do so well. Richard a motivated student and a qualified graduate
whom I recommend wholeheartedly. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
Sincerely,
