 Nouns represent

a thing e.g. coffee,
an activity e.g. football,
a quality or idea e.g. courage,

 Verbs describe
an action or experience e.g. come
state e.g. see
Key: can ..., must ..., should ..., have ...,
 Adjectives describe
a noun e.g. happy holidays
Key: a ... day (noun)
 Pronoun is used instead of a noun or noun phrase,
such as 'he' instead of 'Peter' or 'the man'
 Preposition is a word that is used before a noun,
pronoun, or gerund to show place, time, direction
etc.
 Adverb is a word that adds to the meaning of a
verb, an adjective, another adverb, or a whole
sentence, such as 'slowly' in 'He ran slowly', 'very'
in 'It's very hot', or 'naturally' in 'Naturally, we want
you to come.‘
Key: ran (verb, except be) ...,
 Determiner is a word that is used before a noun in
order to show which thing you mean. In the phrases
'the car' and 'some cars', 'the' and 'some' are
determiners
 Linking word is a word such as ’but’, ’and’, or
’while’ that connects phrases or parts of sentences
[= conjunction]
