Rhonda Campbell Proposal for Short Film
1. NOT SO COMPLICATED WOMEN (DOCUMENTARY)
I have heard it said before that this is a man’s world and we are all just livening in it. That
statement still stands true when it comes to the entertainment industry and how women
are breaking their way through little by little. I want to bring light to this world and the
struggles they face coming out on top in a “man’s” world.
Background and Purpose
Through my years breaking my way into indie film I have noticed one unignorable thing
and that is I didn’t see many women taking lead on film crews. A woman on a crew
seemed few a far between and the few I did see seemed to be working harder and looked
more stressed. When I questioned this new information, I had taken in I was met with a
struggled-out cry of anger and frustration. These women talking about the hardship they
faced even getting into the position they were in on an indie film set. Why the struggle?
What did these women face that I at that moment as just an actress wasn’t? The answer,
men. A backlash from their male counterparts who they saw as friends kept them from
working their way into desired areas on set. I wanted to bring attention to this matter and
show that women are just as important in the making of the film and may even seem to
make a set stronger. I wanted to show their struggles and make people listen to their
stories of wanting to just be accepted in an industry they loved. What better way to do
this than with a documentary.
Proposed Plan of Action
We need to make their stories known and make them real and in your face. I want to
follow a few (2-3) women on a couple of different days on set, I want to see how they
interact and how others interact this them. I want to hear their stories of how they got into
the industry in the first place and the things that they may have faced to get there. I’d love
to if possible, focus on women who carry higher positions in a crew such as director or
producer, but also cover scripties, PA’s, boomer, etc. We can film local to Dallas/Fort
Worth area and hit up a few larger sets, possibly a feature.
Schedule
My plan is to film at least 3 days on set with maybe a day or two leading up to the first
film day.
December 2020 – Write out a general guide for filming and discover who we want to
focus on.
January 1st – Feb 2021 – Possibly break ground on filming, I want to film throughout
January, this can carry on into Feb. (depending on the dates each person films, usually
around DFW multiple films go on around the same time so it works out.)
Mid-February 2021- Filming is wrapped up, send off to post house to complete editing.
2. March 2021 – Release film on a platform of studios choosing.
Staffing
With Royal Goblin Films and Spektre Studios leading this project I believe this
documentary will run smoothly and be completed within the rough time frame I laid out.
This being a mainly Royal project Spektre equipment will be used as well as their post
house utilized. I would like LuacidVisuals to head up sound design on this project as they
create amazing unique music. As far as main crew preferably R Bradley Morris as lead
producer and I would love to direct. Jesus Pesos for DP and the rest of his people filled
throughout.
Budget
When it comes to this section, I know both studios are the kings of low budget film
making and can make this documentary amazing on very little funds. I would say max
budget 8K including post, food, and paying crew. Here is the budget I have laid out.
Using micro crew $1000 per day x3 days = $3000
Post-production $500 per day x7 days = $3500
Food max $300 per day x3 days = $900
Travel $200 per day x3 days = $600
Total cost = $8,000
The budget $8000 with a .5% ROI = 12K is what you would get back.
Authorization
I am directly reaching out R. Bradley Morris with Royal Goblin Films Studios, I would
love for you to take on this project and really bring it to life with the help of your partner
