The table shows a comparative study of staple food items over a period of
three years, starting from February 2018 to January 2021.
According to the given data, the prices have been rising steeply. Flour
prices have almost doubled in just three years. Tour daal prices
demonstrated two by third price hike. Although rice is the cheapest
commodity it showed a rising tendency of 50%. In Feb,2021 oil is the
costliest among all food items with an upward trend of more than 40% in
prices.
To summarize, hike in basic food prices mean the poor can’t afford even
one square meal. The government must control the prices of essential
commodities.
