1. SOCES invade Immunization Program
Answering to the memorandum issued by the Department of Health (DOH) and
Department of Education (DepED) the SOCES adhered on the implementation of School-Based
Immunization Program to all Grade-1 pupils last August 29, 2016.
The program conducted as the government’s response to ensure prevention of morbidity
and mortality of school age children due to vaccine-preventable diseases.
There were representatives from the Rural Health Unit personnel who conducted
immunization for free through the provision of Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus Deptheria
(Td) vaccines among 230 Grade 1 pupils of the said school. They gave on-hand orientation and
information drive on the importance of the program with the collaboration of two implementing
agencies before the start of actual vaccination.
Different emotions came out; at first, children were very reluctant to undergo vaccination
because of inflected pain they might encounter. Some silently submitted their selves as if they
don’t afraid, others frightened as if they don’t know what to do, they go around the classroom as
if they don’t want to be vaccinated, others easily submitted their selves but mostly of them cried
out loud before and after vaccination.
Journalist asked: What do you feel about the vaccination? “I don’t want to be injected
because it hurts, but Nurses were true of their words that the feeling is like of small bites of an
insect, and yes it was true, Yeheey! I conquered it!, disclosed by Vincent S. Dizon a grade 1
pupil.
Moreover, Mrs. Rafonsel T. Timcang, PHN III and the team leader said, “the vaccination
conducted every August to all Grade 1 & 7 students all over the country that started last school
year 2013-2014 with thorough monitoring and recording to ensure that no pupils left
unvaccinated”.
The activity concluded successfully with all Grade 1 presents on that day 100%
vaccinated.
