Web Ninja API demo
In simple terms, an API (Application Programming Interface) is the building blocks that allow systems to interconnect and pass data to each other.
The idea behind using the Auckland rail map is to show connectivity between points, and that’s basically the exact same way that an API works.
So you might want to point for example to Albany and say something like “imagine this is Reckon Accounts” and then point to Otahuhu and say something like “and this is a online timesheet application”, the concept of trains and data travelling between interconnected points is basically the same.
Why should you care about APIs?
An application which uses an API to connect into Reckon software, allows you to extend functionality of the product into more niche areas. This may lead to significant cost savings and retention of clients
This is the perfect time to investigate API partners and options. It could be the difference between a $250,000 implementationand $2000.
Anecdote
A few years ago a customer contacted the Reckon API team with a request to try and find some software that would help them out. They didn’t want to leave Reckon but desperately needed a extended system
beyond what they could do in RA and had contacted SAP and were about to go with a $250,000 install and replacement of their whole accounting systems. The API team managed to find a tool that was $2000 pa
that solved the issue and kept the client.
Reckon has over 500 developers in its API program as of June 2015? And more are being added weekly?
Availability
The Reckon Accounts Hosted API is now available in Australia
It will arrive in New Zealand shortly
Developers can easily support both countries.

Security of your Accounts data and logins is always paramount with Reckon designed systems.

Version 1.0 – October 2015 The Reckon One API will be made available in its first release during October 2015.
This first release will allow developers to integrate with contacts, journals, tax groups, projects, chart of accounts and invoices
Some of these will be a read only service, but expanded upon in 1.1 and beyond
There is significant interest in the market for this product. Developers are banging our doors down.
Version 1.1 - TBA
Will allow editing/importing of the Chart of Accounts programmatically. Thus leading to a conversion system from other products eventually.
Invoices will become write and read.
Investigating allowing developers to access unposted BankData transactions. Expanding the fintech capabilities of Reckon One.
What do you feel is important to allow developers to do?
Email reckonapi@reckon.com
Help us get the info out
Again like Hosted, feel free to contact developers and mention the Reckon One API integration
Tell them about our email address where we can take things further
One thing to keep in mind is that just like Reckon, developers need to schedule developments so it may take a little while
Developers are generally very open to expanding their integrations
The API Program is now free
Developers no longer need to pay a fee to access our API systems
Those who qualify will be provided with test Hosted and Reckon One accounts for no additional cost.
The API program will consist of the Desktop, Hosted and Reckon One APIs. There are more APIs on the way from Reckon.
Much more attractive to development community with these changes
API Marketplace
The current API marketplace is undergoing a major overhaul
Once launched it will be very much like a app store where you will be able to search for apps based on name or need
For example if you need to find a construction based add on, you will be able to use that style filter.
With the fees gone, the marketplace will be significantly larger than it is now.
