1. Day 1
A: 3rd Grade Class, 12 Girls,10 Boys
S: My class of 3rd grade students will know what the ocean is, what causes the waves and
currents, and why it is salty by listening to a Voki, viewing a digital image, and completing
aWebQuest by the end of the day with 95% accuracy.
S: Media that will be used is audio (for Voki), digital image, Internet/computers (for
WebQuest), and a blog to complete WebQuest.
U: When introducing each of these materials have clear expectations and directions.
Digital Image:
1. Prepare image on a photo editing software
Voki:
1. Prepare a Voki to go along with lesson
2. Make sure audio can play in classroom
WebQuest:
1. Preview sites listed
2. Make sure all students have access to internet and computers
3. Instead of presenting to class, have students post on blog
R:
Digital Image: Use this to assess what the students already know. Show image and ask
questions like, can you identify anything here, what do you know about the oceans, and what do
you want to learn about them? Make note of the responses.
Voki: “This morning I received a very important message…can anyone guess who it’s
from?” The Voki is a dolphin giving a fun introduction to learning about the oceans. Play it and
let students respond.
2. WebQuest: Each student will complete a WebQuest, but part of the WebQuest will
divide students into groups. In the WebQuest instead of having students present to class, have
them post article to a blog with their pictures. This will cover the bulk of the lesson, and will
need to be completed by the end of the day to post to blog. Each student will be required to give
feedback to at least 3 students. Student with the most positive feedback will win “contest.”
E: Verbal evaluating will take place at the beginning of the day, but the WebQuest and how
they respond to other students will cover most of it. The WebQuest is out of 45 points and they
are evaluated in a few different areas (see WebQuest).
